I own the LCD-XC and am in the process of doing a couple of things DIY style with what I can.

• Custom outer closed flat black cups to replace bubingas
• Open cut in Audeze grill shape on black perspex and brushed or dimpled
• Mesh outer cups aka Sennheiser HD 600 etc

Only thing I think is out of reach is metal versions - as in make it look like a stock LCD-X

Any sources for templates, suppliers greatly appreciated.

I know it is kind of old post,
but any luck finding LCD-X grilles? Maybe a stl file for 3d printing? Would love to experiment with my LCD-XC as well IIRC XC and X's are exactly the same apart from grilles/cups.
BTW it is possible to use some rubber distance rings with XC cups to make them semi-open, Have not tried that yet, but might be worth trying.

No luck finding any but have not looked for a while - also was a little concerned if there was any difference between open and closed models and whether that would affect the diaphragm etc. You could get them made at an engineering firm fairly cheaply I think too.
