Recently I stumbled into photos of this portable amp. It's called the MHPA-FET. Has anyone else heard about it? It seems to be popular with Japanese head-fiers and I only see it on Japanese sites when I google it.

Here is a picture from http://f.hatena.ne.jp/web123/20090830154717:

And another one:

The top picture (correct link here) has the title: Modded MHPA-FET with Active GND. Looks like some kind of low-powered FET amp (I presume the bottom box in the second pictures contains batteries) where the owner has neatly built and installed a third channel through which the ground is wired. The construction pictures are here. The original kit is available from here for about $50.

Yeah I think the second box, the one below the amp houses the batteries. Hmm thanks currawong! Interesting little amp. Have you seen/listened to it before?

looks OK, though all those trimpots suggest either an unfinished or underdeveloped circuit, or possible lack of parts matching/ temperature stability. could also just be to enable the use of a variety of user-selected opamps I guess

great photography though!!
