Anyone else receiving a popping noise with their Asus Xonar STX?

Every time I play something with sound after it's been paused I hear a really harsh popping noise. The noise is more intense the longer you leave something paused, almost as if the noise is being "charged up" and then discharging upon pressing play. I've left something paused for 5 minutes, pressed play, and instantaneously had a reflex to cover my ears upon hearing the popping. It was incredibly painful. I was so annoyed with my first Asus Xonar STX doing this I decided to send it back after not coming up with any answers for my problem. I just received my new one today and it's doing the SAME DAMN THING.

I'm positive it's my soundcard because for one, I never had to deal with anything like this with onboard sound. I also tested out my headphones with this card and it does the same thing. This is incredibly hard to look past, as it's literally causing me physical pain. I don't think I should have to shell out $180 to blow out my own ears out over time...

Anyone experiencing this very same problem or something similar that's found a solution?

Using a Corsair 750tx and it's never even remotely close to full load at any point in time. Just redid cable management a few days back and installed another fan. Temps in the case dropped 3-5c on everything overall.

did you check the serial#? not like they sent you the same dud?

well, maybe your mobo is playing tricks on ya then...if I were you, I'd try in a different computer w/ a different pair of headphones.

They sent the replacement before I ever sent mine back. I guess I'll try the card on another computer, but it seems to not be acting up as bad as the last one. After a few hours it's started to die down in its intensity(the popping), but I wish it would be gone for good =/. I'll tell you one thing, if I can definitely narrow this down to the soundcard, I'll probably never be buying from Asus again. This is just atrocious.

the drivers suck, and Asus never updates them anyway..either the card in my signature or the Auzentech w/ discrete headphones amps seem to be good options.

but don't worry, an Asus rep will be back w/ your shortly.

The newest drivers killed all of the sound on my last card, and I mean LITERALLY. No sound was being emitted from my speakers after updating to the newest Asus Xonar Drivers.

There's something wrong with your general computer setup then.. I have no issues with the latest drivers.. it may be a resource conflict or an issue with static electricity buildup somehow..

I've tried a truckload of soundcards these past months, nothing tops the Xonar! haha, fixed samplerate, no bitmatched mode, 3 resident apps, can't use Dolby Headphones on the RCA out(which is mandatory as the headphones chip is terrible), very unstable, 3 resident apps hogging the system, no automatic profiles for 3D audio in games, dumb GUI...the list goes on

try the X-Fi Forte 7.1 maybe? the headphones amp looks really awesome.

This one?

yup, apparently it's the same discrete headphones design as their new card...it won't have a problem sounding better than the $2.25 IC on the Essence cards.

and it's a X-Fi at heart, so you get automatically bit-matched ASIO...it's a nice feature to get 1:1 untouched audio.

It sounds to me like there is something wrong with your computer as well. I've never heard of this happening before and you get 2 cards that are doing the same thing?

The STX is a nice sounding card for the money. The issues leeperry points out are either grossly over-exaggerated or very minor for most users. If your main use is gaming or movies then the Auzentech makes sense, but if sound quality is your priority the Auzentech would be a step backwards IMO.

I'll be primarily listening to music, which is exactly why I chose the Asus Xonar. I'll look more into this, thank you all for your help so far.
