Anyone else excited about the (possible) new ipod?

The songs will play in what order you want: random, album order, grouping of singles or whatever.

I don't understand the question, but the iPods playback AAC and MP3 lossy (perceptual compression) and all but shuffle play back Apple Lossless too (which I'm guess you mean 'true' losssless).

do you think it'll be possible to update the current 5G for gapless playback? Or are those new features only for the new 5Gs?

The new nano looks really cool and 8gb is probably enough to cover my ultraportable needs.

I might eventually get the 80gb video to have a player in my car (sold my 60 for a RW 4g)- I think 256 to 320 aac will be plenty there.

The shuffle looks like a great design, but I have no interest in a mp3 player without a display. I would use one for audiobooks, but even when I create a bookmark, I cannot tell you how often I have lost my place. Probably user error, but the inability to veiw and return to my mark is frustrating to me.

Looking forward to see what they do with the NFL stuff- otherwise I dont think I am interested in any of the video related features.

That's my question too. It should be a simple software upgrade, but who knows if they will implement it on existing 5G iPods.

It probably would be, but I don't think Apple is going to release a firmware update simply because they want to milk every penny from you. Actually I'm quite curious as to why Apple has implemented gapless. This is probably a sweeping generalisation but do many people even realise what gapless playback is? Are most people even bothered by the lack of it? It'll probably be a feature that won't be heavily advertised if I were to guess. But hey, gapless is here finally!

Hard to say. I just installed iTunes 7 and it did the checking for gapless thing. But when I plugged in my (now outdated) Nano, nothing changed on the Nano. I hope there will be a software update for the Nano that will permit gapless playback. I doubt it's a hardware issue as rockbox can do it, so Apple software should be capable of doing it as well.

However, the new iPods are using a new chip which supports gapless natively, so that's why we're getting gapless playback now. It CAN be done through software, but it remains to be seen if they WILL do it through software for older players.

Well all things considered it's good news. 80GB is better than 60GB, but not as much as I wanted.

Now to wait to get some SQ reviews. Come on all you early adopters...get out there and buy the big iPod! We need reviews!

I'm also wondering about RockBox. Since it was never really stable in 4G iPods I never really considered using it. But now I wonder how well it will work with the 5.5G's.

Another question, not quite as critical since I think I already know the answer: will the AudioLineOut LOD's still work? I can't imagine Apple being dumb enough to alter the dock configuration, but you never can tell...
