Any reason why I would be disappointed with the iHP-120 over the Zen Xtra?

If you're satisfied with it over your Zen Xtra, then return your xTra and buy the iHP somewhere online.
If you don't think the iRiver is worth it after tring it out, then just return it and leave it at that.

Thats the problem. I cant find any stores around me that have the iHP. So I have to depend on your reviews.

I mean can't the main stuff that makes the Zen Xtra better can all be fixed on the iHP-120 with a firmware upgrade?

Never count on a firmware upgrade fixing things. If one's firmware is inferior to the other now, chances are it will stay being inferior.

Isn't there an online store which will let you audition it?

Anyway, as far as the sound goes, I'd say this: do you like the sound of your Xtra? If you do, I'd stick with it, as you probably won't like the sound of the iRiver anyway. If you aren't satisfied with the sound for whatever reason, it's probably worth trying something else.

The IHP is very forward in sound, the midrange does seem boosted, as stated by the previous poster. I somewhat dislike the sound, even amped. I don't thing it would surpass the Creative in sound quality (an assumption). There really isn't much soundstage either, The IHP is a portable after all. I would never use the IHP for critical music use, but if just as a portable, it pretty much rocks. The remote is friggin awesome, I probably couldn't bring the player outside without it clipped on my belt. Interface could use some work though. Good all-around portable. Features are okay, but most could live without them. Depends on you needs (sound or just portability). Of course all my opinion.

I do hope you live in a servicable area...

Watch out for the Amazon 30-day return policy. I believe austonia had an issue with sending an item back to them within the last month or so. They hit him with a restocking fee and I believe that he had to have the credit card company put a hold on the charges.
