I'm thinking of subscribing to a mag or two, but I'm not sure which ones. Audio/games/electronics/men's entertainment/adult (I'm 18) etc. Any good recommendations? (no really expensive ones please)

You may be looking for recommendations for stuff like Maxim, Mens Health, etc., but if you're not, I can recommend National Geographic and The Economist as really great magazines.

Hmm . . sadly I'm not the intellectual type, and I mainly read for pleasure (as opposed to bettering myself knowledge-wise), so I guess the prior. Don't read maxim anymore and I'm not a big fan of men's health. Thanks anyway. =)

Jeff:

That's a pretty good magazine. I like reading it from time to time.

Kirosia:

Why don't you consider subscribing to Stereophile, The Absolute Sound, or HiFi+, etc.? Do you read Hi-Fi rags at all or are interested in them?

I subscribe to Stereophile. Next up are Linux Journal, The Absolute Sound, and Ultra High Fidelity Magazine. Gots to start saving...

For the geek/technophile, WIRED is great - it's the only magazine I actually pay out of my own pocket to subscribe to.

CAR (British automotive magazine) is probably the only other one which I would subscribe to, but I find it easier to just pick it up at my local Barnes & Noble every month - I'm not saving much by subscribing anyway.

HiFi+ is an awesome magazine but they have a tendency to review and talk about stuff most of us will never own. At least their album reviews are worthwhile (and affordable).

I'm currently subscribed to Maximum PC, good stuff indeed.

It really is. I used to subscribe, and miss it, come to think about it. But I'd say that it's definitely on the intellectual side. As a young man of 18, our friend may learn even more from Playboy, so long as he doesn't go blind when viewing the pictures. As a joke, I recently sent a guest subscription of Playboy to an old college pal who recently got married for the first time (he's 43 but with a much younger wife). Oddly enough, he says she reads them more than he does! I need a young wife like that...
