Almost caught up on soul eater... This definitely get better by the episode, definitely.

Also watching kannagi, toradora, ef: a tale of melodies and nodame cantabile which are all very good.

Casshern sins is starting to get more and more boring..

Ghost in the Shell SAC and SAC 2nd Gig are the only anime that I can truly call myself a fan of. Astounding art direction, writing and music.

The GITS movies aren't bad either.

Everything GiTS is my favorite, but I've seen all those quite a while ago :P

Currently finishing up all of the Patlabor series/movies. Also started Gilgamesh and Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto. And keeping current with Bleach as well... (episode 198 tonight, w00t!).

I finished Bamboo Blade a couple of days ago. I haven't really found a lot of sports-related anime that I have particularly enjoyed (other than Princess Nine which I watched nearly 4 years ago), so this was something of an experiment for me. The entire premise of the series is a High School Kendo instructor forming a girl's Kendo team so that he can compete and win a bet against his sempai, a kendo instructor with his own team of girls (and who harbors a friendly grudge over the loss of a kendo match in their childhood). It seemed a bit cliche when it started but I was really surprised by how well the characters were developed and interacted with one another. True, most of the character types were a bit stereotypical, but they just worked together. And some of the comedic parts were downright entertaining. A very light and enjoyable series (if you like light and enjoyable). I'd give it 4-4.25/5

Blue Gender: I've put this one off for a while but I'm glad I finally watched it. The basic idea is your typical wake up from statis in a post-apocalyptic future and thrust into the middle of a vicious war, although it definitely sets itself apart from most stories like that. It's nice to see a 26 episode series where they almost have too much story to tell, rather than struggling to stretch the series out longer. This works towards a fairly similar conclusion as Arjuna, but actually has good story and character development. It never forces the message it wants to convey (there's a general anti-war and environmentalist theme going on), instead driving home the point through what the characters witness and their interactions with each other. This series is also the epitome of the "Anyone Can Die" trope, everybody besides the two main characters can become casualties without warning.

Ergo Proxy: This one didn't quite win me over as much as I was expecting. It's a pretty well polished series, with good video and sound, but relies too heavily on mystery and suspense that never really gets led to a satisfactory conclusion. It also has a few fairly weak and unthemely filler episodes later on, which is a bit disappointing considering it's already truncated to 23 episodes instead of the normal 26. I did marathon most of the series out of interest to find out what was going to happen, which I rarely do, but it promised more than it could deliver. Reminds me a lot of my experience with the Old Boy manga, very interesting as the story works its way along, but when you find out the answers behind the mystery you just want to bang your head against the wall.

Is that Earth Girl Arjuna you're referring to? That is on my list of anime to get and if Blue Gender is as good or better than it, I might have to consider that as well.

Yeah, that Arjuna. I personally hated that series, because of how incredibly preachy it is (you aren't allowed to reach its message yourself, you're force-fed it with a sledgehammer), as well as how condescending and arrogant the main "good guy" was towards Juna. Actually I think it's the series I've disliked the most out of anything I've seen to date (see my anime list for reference). So I was really surprised to notice in the end that Blue Gender had similar themes running through it, yet I absolutely loved it. The environmentalist aspects don't start coming into play until you get further along in the series though, the focus is stronger on depicting the ugliness of war and surviving (physically and mentally) in that kind of situation.

Yeah, if you don't like overly preachy, run as fast as you can from Arjuna. Plenty of people love it, and I find no fault with that, but I strongly disagree with how the message was conveyed in Arjuna, and IMO it risks alienating people away from having anything to do with environmentalism.

I feel exactly the same way about Ergo Proxy as you do, Fitz. Not only do the mysteries never really get resolved adequately, the whole show moves at a vicodin-addicted snail's pace.

Haha, yeah the slow pace didn't bother me at all, many of my favourites are considered glacially slow by most people, but you can't build-up the mysteries that much without something good in store for the reveal.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS (highlight): What the hell is up with the let-down that is the arrival in Mosk? "Now I know this pendant is actually a one of a matching set, and that word on the wall with no apparent significance also appeared back in Romdo in an early episode, so we clearly must now go all the way back to where we started." And despite the journey out there being extremely deadly, for the trip back the worst risk is bad dreams from other Proxies? Urgh!

The Otaku USA review was pretty hard on Ergo Proxy as well. It basically stated the same thing you did; lot's of smoke and mirrors for no worthwhile reason. Such a shame considering the dark, grainy artwork looks so good.

Also following Gundam 00, but I'd have to say that many of the writing decisions have been mind boggling. There's something seriously wrong with a plot if the antagonists are far better characterized and more sympathetic than the protagonists.

Still, it's probably the best Gundam series since 0083.

Marvin, have you tried watching Turn A gundam? It's quite different from what the regular gundam series are like (plotline not withstanding the soundtrack is really good). In regards to the depictions of the antagonists, I think it makes it more intriguing since the antagonists are more complex and 3D
Possible spoilers (highlight):
(specially want see why Graham became Mr. Bushido.)

Shikabane Hime has been pretty good so far. Now I have to wait for the rest of the episodes to be aired and subbed though. Anybody else watching this?
