I've actually decided to use my uDAC-2 for a while, as my wife got me a turntable for my birthday and most of my money has been going toward upgrades on that... and lots of delicious vinyl.

However, I'm planning on building a Bottlehead SEX this summer... so I guess we'll have to wait till then for my impressions!

Gosh must sound really nice.  I've been interested in vinyl systems myself. W1000X and vinyl... must be heaven!

I also started my vinyl setup this year. Yet another money sinkhole, although one I am enjoying a lot! There is just something to going to a record store or show and digging though crate after crate of records.

The W1000X has sounded really excellent with it so far, though it's certainly more revealing of pops and hisses than a speaker setup would be.

The turntable isn't anything nuts, just an Audio Technica (she knows I like the brand) LP120 that has a lot of room for growth; I've replaced the cartridge on it with a nice Shure M97xE and the mat with a cork one. These simple and inexpensive improvements have been astounding in their impact, which is pretty cool.

Next I'm going to crack it open and connect nice cables directly to the tone-arm output. I've seen a couple of guides on it, and it seems like an incredibly cost effective way to bypass what seems to be an passable but not great internal preamp that can't be fully deactivated with a switch.

Anyway, I'm totally derailing things here.

@Mercuttio, I know it's an older thread but have you selected an amplifier for your W1000x yet?

I'm thinking on buying a pair of new W1000x and I'm hoping it will match well with my MAD Ear+ Purist HD. I know you are a Grado fan so just on a side note you owe yourself to try your RS1 on a MAD someday.

I actually switched back to the RS1.

You know, I don't know exactly what the best driver of the W1000X is; it was easier to drive than the RS1, and therefore more sensitive. This is definitely an issue with most amps... just as my BW P5 can hear noise on the RA1, the W1000X had a similar issue with a lot of amps I tried. It's a sensitive phone, and I'm finding those are trickier matches than nearly anything else.

That said, the Yulong D100 internal amp has an absolutely BLACK background with the W1000X. I thought it was a pretty good combo, and you've still got a great DAC if you find something else you like better later on.
