Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-3

Thinking about getting the LCD-3 and wondering if my Asgard 2 will work with it.

I realize it's probably not the best choice, but until I bring in something better, will it at least work?

It will work. As you said, it's probably not the ideal amp but you'll get to enjoy your LCD-3s while you save. Then enjoy them again when you upgrade your amp.

Thinking of getting an LCD-3 in the near future. What's the best amp paired with LCD-3 that will give me the best bang for your buck between $1500 - $3000? If I'm only going to hear subtle differences between a $1,500 and a $3000 then I'll take the $1,500 one. Also are TOTL solid state amps superior to tube amps or are the differences subtle? I read that tube amps are suppose to give a more airy, natural sound but I do not know about the TOTL solid states.

I like the OPPO HA-1 brings some neutrality to the 3 with plenty of power out the of the balanced output. Plus its below your $ range.

In this price range read up about schiit audio ragnarok (SS) and decware taboo III (tube), both $1700. Both are well regarded. And there are certainly other options such as mentioned above. Good luck.

Thank you, I will definitely be looking at those three amps! I read about the Ragnarok and Decware but not the OPPO HA-1. I will consider those three when I'm ready to buy the amp.

Still open to more suggestions.

Amps like the Ragnarok and Audio-gd Master-9 (and probably a few others) can easily compete with $3000 amps for around half the price.
So there is no need to spend $3000 unless you have a specific reason or particular amp in mind.

Whether you hear differences and what kind depends on where you are in your audiophile journey (long-term factor) and day-to-day variations in hearing and (arguably) brain decoding. This is a very individual thing, and the only way to know what you can hear (and equally importantly whether it matters to you) is to listen for yourself.

One 'advantage' to tube amps is they can be tuned to preference - though this can be a lengthy and possibly expensive process. I like an SS-like, neutral, transparent sound and this is reasonably easy to achieve with my Taboo (I have the mk II not the current III). Warm or cold, wet or dry etc are equally achievable.

At that price range I would give the Inspire IHA-1 a look. Very pleased with mine.

I forgot my IEMs at work over the weekend so with nothing else handy I plugged my LCD-3F straight into the headphone out of my late 2014 macbook pro.  To my complete surprise they actually sounded really good!  There have been some serious improvements in the quality of that output in recent years because I definitely remember the quality of headphone out on my previous ~2008 macbook pro was somewhere between mediocre and bad.

Hi, sorry but don't go HA-1. I had one, it worked great as DAC but not good enough as AMP. And it sounds too "digital".

Absolutely Rag is a far better amp. Also you may wanna check GS-X, Auralic Taurus.

At lower price, the EF-6 does amazing job according to my personal experience. I am using EF-6 now and really satisfied.
