Hello about to purchase some dt770/80 i couple of days, and want to get the most out of them so thinking of getting an amp. I will be using an Ipod Touch at a desk. So i could get a Fiio E9 and plug directly into the ipod do i really need that much power for 80 ohm phones? Or could go with a portable amp such as a cMOY so can use it around house aswell, also on planes.

I have been doing lots of research, but with amps like the BSG cMOY he says he changes little things on the amp and upgrades components, and the comparisons (like with JDS cMOY) I've seen are fairly old.
Would like to keep it around £50 and with LOD and power cable the BSG is over that but is it better than the Juice one which is cheapest? Want to keep it cheapest as possible really as im a student with no job so cant save up for somethig better either! :frowning2:

Options so far after a S#!T load of research:

1. BSG cMOY http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140485973902&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

2.Juice2214 cMOY http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250737498701&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

3.JDS cMoy v2.02 (bass boost) http://www.jdslabs.com/products.php

4.Pa2v2 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PA2V2-Headphones-Amplifier-Rechargeable-Headphone-Amp-/190476243871?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5944d39f

5. Fiio E9 http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-Desktop-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B004AVKGS6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1291498170&sr=1-1

6. Fiio E5 http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-E5-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B001PYZYI8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1291498683&sr=1-1

What LOD would you reccomend on the cheap -  Fiio L3?? -http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-Line-Out-Cable-iPod/dp/B003XEKM3K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291498716&sr=1-1

Sorry for all these questions but last one, will the bass boost on the JDS work well with the dt770 already bass heavy sound? And comming from Visang RO2 earphones wich i would like to use with the AMP too :) (not a deal breaker though) the BSG has dual gain so its possible with that one!

Thanks in advance guys and gals, and I'm open to other amp suggestions of course!!!!! :)

I think i might go for the Mini3 amp, the only one not listed above lol. Just on their website and is a little confusing about what componants you actually need!
Is this all that you have to get to make the amp:http://www.amb.org/shop/

If anyone is interested in selling one (pre made) then please let me know!

Just an update, I posted on your last thread before you made this one.

I got the DT770 Pro/80s today, setup is in sig.

Bass.... good GRIEF!  There is literally almost too much.  With my source and amp combo, the bass is HUGE, and this is without the cans even remotely being burned in.

Now, everyone knows the 770s are known for their bass, but what I have to tell you is this:

The PA2v2 vs. Matrix M-Stage amp makes a huge difference with sound quality.  When I had my X-Fi Fatalty soundcard running to the PA2v2, several things were much much different:

1) I had to EQ to get sufficient detail
2) Bass was somewhat bloated

With my current setup (Music Fidelity V-DAC > Matrix M-Stage amp), the bass is cleaner, deeper, and the detail is excellent without an ounce of EQing.

So I know you're not really in the market for a high end amp yet, but maybe put it on your Christmas list or something.  The difference is huge.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help, but i may now go for the Fiio E5 with L3 LOD as its cheap, and i cant imagine the difference being that huge! As i think think the dt770/80's sound great just from the ipod, and not even burned in! I am comming from skullcandy's so you can probably guess why this is the case! haha

Give the phones some time. When I first got my Pro-80s I EQed them with around 3dB cut at 100Hz. Over time (a few hundred hours) the bass evened out and I no longer use any EQ. The bass is now very near to neutral (still slightly heavy). These headphones require a huge amount of break-in to sound their best.
