I don't think you'll be able to do much better than the EF-5 for the price in terms of driving an HE-5 unless you go the DIY route, but someone with more experience with the combo can comment if I'm wrong.

Yeah. For that price range, hard to beat EF-5.

Anyone with impressions/experiences on the HE-5 with a M^3 or CTH or Dynalo or Audiogd C2C?

I'd also look at the Bada PH-12. A used one if you can find it is an outstanding value.

Peete.

I heard Absorbine_Sr's HE5/EF5 combo at a meet. This combo punched well above it's price class. We also tried the HE5 out of his Zana Deux and my Luxman P1. The HE5/EF5 combo has wonderful synergy and sounded much better than out of the much more expensive amps. Looking at your setup you might consider upgrading your source and/or the quality (lossless?)of the material on your hard drive.

The OP's setup looks pretty solid to me. I think the only thing missing is a good transport.

I prefer the Solo SRGII w/ PSU1 with the HE5 over the EF5. Two other members here Ron and Carl have listened to both an agree the Solo SRGII sounds better with more impact, musicality, separation, and wider soundstage.

few of the "usual suspect" list of amps will be unquestionably great with the HE-5 due to the insane low sensitivity and low impedance

the HE-5 needs at least 2x more current than Grados and nearly as much V as 300 Ohm Senns - not a common combination in the run of the mill headphone amps

you can simply ignore any OTL tube amp with < 1 liter output tube volume

low power speaker amps such as the JLH would be a better match than almost anything you'll normally see recommended on Head-Fi

I loved the he-5 out of my balanced Bijou, so it definitely responds very well to tube amps. I also listened to the same unit out of a Little Dot MK VI and same thing - I really liked them - a lot. This unit was recabled by APS, so that may also be a factor.

I just got the EF5 from a guy in Thailand. He sold me just for about 230 usd (with new tube and some modifications).
Do you know the reason why ? The headfiers in website taf.in.th just have found an amp, that's far superior than the EF5.It's called "Minute Amp" and costs just around$700.The Minute Amp is ThaiDIY( I'm not quite sure). If you visit the taf.in.th website, you will see  many EF5s in the ForSale section.
well it's the information just in case you have some friends in that country.

HE5 with amps with enough power are about 30-40 % better than  with the EF5(just my opinion )
