Amazing Bay Area Meet 2/19/11 Impressions Thread!

Gotta share my UE's as well! Mine look exactly like Shane's so I'll spare everyone the pictures. I ordered and paid for UE4s but whats this? The shipping slip says UE5 and so do earbuds. Free upgrade OMG? The seal is just phenomenal. I swear the only time I've had a better seal was wearing double hearing protection. I've read you usually need to send it back for refits but its been 8 hours of solid wearing so far and I can't feel any problems. I think I'm gonna have to sleep in them just to find something to complain about! Oh and the personalized touches are great! initials in bold on each earbud. The case is solid and classy. Nicely engraved. I'll definitely keep and use it.

Oh I finally found something to complain about because I love complaining. The case just opens into two halves instead of having a hinge. Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, its a deal breaker. It was two good to be true.

Thanks UE! Now if only I get myself to take these off. I wish these were waterproof. I need to take a shower...

I should be getting my ue11 pro's today after Todd helped me reroute the delivery to my work address.  Unfortunately, I'll probably be in meetings all afternoon and won't be able to open it up until after I get home later this evening.

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if I am violating some community rules by posting this, but I think this may help if you do find problem with the fit.

I find myself with similar thoughts.  For a while they feel fine.  But then I think I feel a bit of pressure here and there.  I think the tolerances for these things are so darned tight that if you just so much as look the other direction, you will feel something change.  I'm not sure if that's good or bad.  Universals with foamies or silicon are definitely more forgiving.  I guess that's why they tell you to try them out for a few days before rushing to send them back for refits.

Thanks Vincent!  I hope I didn't lead you with the impression that something was wrong.  I think it's just a matter of getting used to something new.  BTW, we started a thread just for you

The meet and all these pages of talk of new earphone technology inspired me to go out and buy new headgear also -- one of each major type of AKG K340. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the pads to fit into my ear canals.

Good idea, but that tool didn't come with the units. I tried sticking the 1/4" plugs into my ears and they do fit. So I can use two pairs of phones at once. I'm surprised nobody ever thought of that before.

I'm having some trouble with the volume, though.

Since they're electrets and not electrostatic, even slight atmospheric contamination on the electret diaphragms can drain the charge potential and greatly lower the sensitivity of the driver.

Ah, I see. Maybe that's why there's so little volume. It seems to be unaffected by how high I turn the amplifier dial. I never understood headphone technology very well. But those little earbuds at the meet worked pretty good when I stuck them in my ears. Not electrets, I guess.

If you dismantle the cans, take out the electret drivers and flush them in a fluorocarbon solvent, you may be able to resuscitate them.

Do you mean because they hang off your face because the headband is all loose and sloppy for cups that big and they can't swivel far enough to be at the right angle for your head?  That was my problem...

Could be an opportunity to bring the portable rigs out? That way we don't have too much gear to haul and store during the show.
