Am I the only one who thinks that Justin Timberlake absolutely **SUCKS?**

I just caught this thread. Rolling Stone had been a joke for about a decade in 2002, but when it gave Justified a 4-star review I pledged to forget about its existence entirely.

Another classic thread for DrBenway. Is your name perhaps a Burroughs reference?

Interestingly enough so did nearly everyone else give the album four star reviews including Pitchfork. I know that Pitchfork likes to try and touch base with reality and establish its mainstream cred every now and then - I mean they even like Pink Floyd's awful Animals and The Final Cut, which should destroy their reviewing reputation - but they named Sexyback as one of the top albums of 2006. So what gives here (apart from continuing to show Pitchfork's reviewers' appalling mainstream taste)? Why are so many seemingly intelligent reviewers fooled - which brings us back to the OP's point, and is a far more interesting question than does Justin suck.

Sexyback is the name of a song/single, the album is called Futuresex/Lovesounds... I'll be hanging from the rafters shortly for knowing that.

I don't know whose idea it was orginally, but I have often heard the maxim "people get the government they deserve."

In this mindless consumer culture, I'm tempted to say the same thing applies to music.

Yes. I have been using this handle since the mid-80s, and you are the first person who has ever asked me that. The more usual question is "um...are you a real doctor?"

Are you serious or are you joking here?

One time a drunk guy in a bar told me that JT was the only performer out of the entire Toronto SARS benefit concert lineup (including tons of huge acts) that gave his appearance fee back to the charity. Case closed, he rules.

I have no doubt that he is a nice guy and a fine human being. Neither of which has a blessed thing to do with the quality of his music.

Based on what I have read and heard, Miles Davis was a deeply flawed individual. Which has nothing to do with the fact that he was easily one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

I hear Wagner wasn't so nice also.

I think that's kind of a pattern. Genius of any sort seems to most often manifest itself in a way that is coarse and abrasive to others. I would hate to be someone with virtuosic talent, as most of them don't seem to function all that well in society.

why doesn't the title of this thread, or the thread itself fall under the 'no crapping' rule???

having said that, it is one of the more entertaining reads on this site. crapping is great!
