Am I so bad in identifying sound quality?

I really don't care about what other people call them or think of them - audiophiles, musicians or whatever. You seem to have a problem with that.

Life is too short and be happy, my friend (if you don't mind this word)!

Hmm, true. Audiophile in the simplest of terms mean someone who loves good audio. If he didn't think he's an audiophile. He should stop buying audio equipment right NOW. Why you ask? Because why would someone so crazy throw money into audio when he doesn't love it? That's a pure waste of money now, isn't it?

And let's follow Monster's quote "Life is too short for bad headphones.", cheers!

In general: "Life is too short for uninformed purchases."

Does anyone have good experience with Seagate Goflex portable hard drives? Saw it the other day at Costco and I need one to backup my files.

I have not bought any external HD's for a long time. All of the external drives but one I bought 5 yrs ago died long time ago. I am really surprised by the low reliability of these external drives. On the other hand, there is rarely any CD that has failed since year 2000 for me.

It appears CD's are still the most reliable for backups.

Well I haven't had issues with my 1 TB drive. It does what its suppose to. I also have a 2TB internal drive that I mainly use for FLAC storage (used about half of it already lol). Not bad for $90.00.

Its a WD drive and I've had it for about 3 years if not longer. You can generally pick up these external drives for quite cheap now with lots of storage.

That would be true... if there wasn't that flood in Thailand.

I also have a WD My Passport 1TB. It's been working for about 2 years and still going strong. My dad's last experience with Seagate externals didn't end very well. He bought two Deskagents and ended up returning both of them to the factory for replacement. On the other hand my Momentus internal has been working fine for 3 years.

I never had good experience with buying external drives. It makes me wonder if it is worth to buy them anymore. If they die in a few yrs, you lose all backup files on that drive - whether they die in 2, 3 or 5 yrs.

I guess I've just been lucky then. I've never had issues with external drives as much as I've had issues with internal drives.

Lee  - what's the story about your other pair of IE80? You know the IE80 just don't want to leave my ears now. It seems getting more perfect every day and that's ridiculous. I can’t ask for more from these bad boys and this is probably the best buy in my life. As much as I also like the EX600 for very entertaining and casual listening, it just hardly gets any chance to my ears now. I will probably decide later whether I should get rid of it if not much use for me. The IE80 is also much more comfortable and fits perfectly.

The package has been rejected and is on its way back to me. I am looking foward to doing a side by side comparison. I have no doubt the last pair was real as I could tell since I've owned 2 brand new IE8s before that pair. But I'll still do the comparison when I receive them and then they'll go up for sale at a good price.

Edit: Aren't you glad you didn't takes James advice and opted for the IE80 instead of bypassing it. It's been said many times but we all truly do hear things differently. Your early impressions on the EX600 led me to believe you prefer a more laid back and open experience and the IE80 is just that. While the EX1000 may be technically a better performer; I don't technically hear it that way at all and much prefer the IE80. Whats really amazing about them to me is the non fatiguing nature and enjoyable experience even at low volume listening.

That is always the case when you find an earphone better than the one you had. Best decision is to sell it or give it away.

Well you never know what it sounds like until you try. This is what these whole IEM things are all about. For me the IE80 just brings the classical music to life, not mentioning the comfort of wearing and fit. The Ex600 does provide a very entertaining sound signature which I also enjoy, but I am still not very used to wearing it and the fit. I don't feel fatigue either with Ex600 for long hrs of music.

You need a backup pair just in case you forget to bring it to office or in case something has happened to your favorite pair.

Also a different sound sig can supplement your pleasure from listening to the music.

Yeah, I guess so. Hmm, I just got a new IEM and already sold one of mine and selling my Turbines soon, will need a new backup pair then!

Well, it's a matter of preference and yours seem to be towards a more laid-back sound signature. Very likely the Sennheiser sound will suit you better. You could try foam tips like Shure Olives or Complys with your EX600 though, they should calm down the highs a bit.

Well, I was right there with you Lee, at least in the beginning. But you know it's never easy to make recommendations to a moving target.
