I am using EQu app and the have it on safe mode so there will be minimal distortion. Volume isn't as loud though. I can however control the ipod volume so it i put it at around 85% but with safe mode on its around 70-80%. Now usually I turn it up another bar louder because volume increases and decreases noticeably between each bar. I would turn it up a little louder but in certain songs there is a painful amount of simbliance(sp) so I always have to turn it down in volume to get rid of that. But when I close the headphones(ATH-M50s, I can still hear it from the outside even though when I put it back on I want to increase it by a bar to my normal listening level. What Should I do?

... ATH-M50s are compared to regular apple buds high ohm as balls. You won't get the same amount of volume out of them because of this.
Don't worry, those bars are meant to be of use for the headphones that came with the ipod.
 
Just listen to a volume you'd call safe, if you do so everything is A-OK.
