Allman Brothers Band - Live at the Fillmore East - Done somebody wrong (is there a dog barking?)

at 26 seconds in and again at 33 seconds, it sounds to me like there is a dog barking in the background. There are a couple of places where it also sounds like it might be barking too. But those times its closer to the beat and thus harder to tell. It could also be a low harmonica or organ note being played off beat and not directly into the mic.

This really bothers me.

Anybody with better equipment have any idea? This literally makes me check to see what my dog is getting into every time I hear it.

Sounds like you are mistaking the lower registry of the Organ as dog barking, although now that you mention it, does sound a bit like it.

EDIT: Meant the harmonica, some of us still call these "mouth organs"

I believe there is definitely a dog barking. My dogs react to the song everytime they hear that cut. Who would recognize a dog barking better than another dog?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well, though its so oddly out of time at that point. Maybe he was blowing something out of it away from the mic, but it still picked it up? IDK. There are other times where it happens, but its in time.

My guess is that its not a dog, but a lower quality microphone distorting a harmonica at lower registers.

But yeah, it sounds exactly like a dog barking.

I also won somebody over to hifi headphones with this track once. He was a huge allmans fan and had never noticed this phenomenon or that he says "I wonder who?" after announcing the songs title in the intro. He thought I was pulling his leg when I mentioned it in passing, as he had listened to this song hundreds of times and never noticed it.

Its like the black dot on white paper, or the super mild scratch on your gear (watches in particular). You dont notice it until someone tells you or you manage to find it yourself and when you do, you will see it every single time, even if others dont see it even when you tell them, you just know its there and it will be really obvious to you alone. Now I'm gonna hear dogs barking every time I hear this song thanks to you

I never paid any ear to that background barking sound. It's not that I didn't hear it or notice it, just that I never gave it any real notice. Now when I listen to it I'm going to be hearing the dog bark every time. :sarcasticangerysmile:

Listening to it now it sounds more dog like on the remastered version(s) than the old 2 CD Polydor release. Which is fine with me because I much prefer listening to the old 2 CD Polydor version than the remasters.

I'm with Ham Sandwich on the "Infamous Dog Bark" this is only heard IMO on the Remastered Lps....My original 1/2 speed master copy makes it clearly sound like a lower octave organ bass pedal mis-placed note.......Who's to say! On another note, How about the "Doorbell" at the end of "Little Martha" on Eat A Peach.....Thats been startling me for 30 yrs........That's got to be a door bell!!! Listen, almost at the end of the song.

I can hear what you're talking about at 26 sec, but not at 33. It sounds like a dog, but that's hard to believe. I'm guessing it's some instrument in the band.

My dogs also bark whenever somebody rings the doorbell. Does that mean a doorbell sounds like a dog?

Great reply, but if your dog barks at the doorbell, then he/she will be barking and you'll start to get up to answer the door when you hear "Little Martha's" mysteriously placed "Doorbell" chime....It's worth a listen and laugh MarchingMule!

OK your Dog barking on "Done Somebody wrong" on my copy of Mobile Fidelity Ultradisc Gold CD I can hear your "dog Bark" Twice....I've never heard "it" resemble a dogs bark until your post brought it to light! and I've had the recording for 31yrs on vinyl. Funny thing The AB Band don't give the dog any credits!!! This has brought to mind other great hidden messages like (I Buried Paul) etc......

I can't really hear what you're talking about with the doorbell on Little Martha. Although I always have wondered if that was a really light shaker playing at the very beginning of the songs to help them keep rhythm on that song.

fjrabon, It chimes (DING DONG) at 1:12 into this very short fantastic acoustic guitar instrumental. PS "Ding Dong" are my on words to discribe the actual door bell sound, listen you'll hear it. get back to me when you stop laughing when you hear it...

Oh, that's a harmonic on the acoustic guitar Duane was playing. You get this by gently touching the string, but not pushing it to the fret at a harmonic node on the string and plucking it simultaneous with pulling your fretting finger off the string. I guess because I play guitar and always knew what this was, I never really thought about the fact that it kind of sounds like a doorbell.
