Alex Rosson--Audeze's CEO--on Bloomberg TV

jibzilla, have you ever been to a Head-Fi Meet? If you have, then you know you might shake the hand of a broke student into classical music, a multimillionaire businessman into dance music, a world-famous novelist (yes, one has quietly snuck into one of the meets I attended, and has written reviews here, though not in a while), and just about every kind of person you could imagine. The cool thing about it is that they all get along, and often become friends, the common bond (sometimes the only common bond) being headphone audio and a love of music.

I am not a junglist producer. I am not a DJ. I listen to just about every kind of music. I am obviously into audio, too, and one of my reference headphones is the Audeze LCD-X.

(By the way, I think I saw your name on the Chicago "Chi-Unifi" Meet list, so I look forward to meeting you next month.)

And Fabio.

Thad-E-Ginathom:

Yes, if you hear Torvalds pronounce his name, it sounds more or less like "Lee-noos." At least, that's how he used to pronounce it. Last time I heard him speak, he'd been living in the US for so long that he basically lost his native Swedish-Finnish accent and sounds pretty much like any other American.

Thanks for posting this! Congrats to Alex and Sankar! So much well-deserved success!

So cool seeing my photography on Bloomberg TV!

Sorry to sort of commit thread necromancy, but I think the netiquette is <30 days?  I guess it doesn't matter given the WOT this post turned out to be... anyway...

#1)  Leesure, I just checked out your website, you are one of the most talented photographers I have ever seen.  The portraits are incredible, but the way you represent the "finer things in life" porn... audio gear, beer, liquor, coffee, Microsoft booth... if I hadn't spent so much $ on my monitor(which I assume is nothing compared to yours to be able to produce pics like that), I wouldn't have known that your images are more lifelike than life itself, truly incredible pics.  I am not certain I have ever seen their equal!  For those of you that don't have a good monitor, you must check out these pics on the best one you can find!  I expect to see something you have done in the Time's pics of year, Leesure, and when you do be sure to post your achievement somewhere here, I will be following you to watch for it.  What piece of gear is that on your page that starts out the slideshow?  It is curvy black aluminum (I think) with silver bands, a power button, 3 way switch, a knob on the right.. your pic alone makes me want to buy it, and I don't even know what it is :). I am embarrassed to ask but must know please, that is certainly a signature look as much as the McIntosh Vu Meters...

#2)  Good call on Fabio and great thread, I wish most of the pics weren't gone :frowning2:.  Fabio is certainly a legend, I recall seeing his different setups many times since at least the mid 90's, as a moderator of a forum a while back, it was hard to avoid given everyone posted the audio porn pics from his different setups over the years, he was a legend for buying the high end stuff most of us had never even been within a 500 mile radius of.  I vaguely recall a Tom Green show that toured his home... was a funny piece, but I remember the setup that was shown in the setup was insane.  I wonder what happened to Tom, he was a funny fella :).  Side note:  I am/was crafty@digitaltheater.com, #2 behind AVS(or perhaps #3 behind HTF, went back and forth, but AVS smoked us both) until the owner sold it.  We didn't know it was gonna happen until it was gone, oh how many thousands of hours of work in posts gone without a chance to save them :frowning2:.  Anyone remember the forums at Digitaltheater.com?  If someone happens to remember the boards, or even better can find them in some web archives somewhere, PM me please, reward offered for recovered content!  The base URL was http://www.digitaltheater.com/cfb/index.cfm?CFB=1.

#3)  Comparing speaker setups and HP setups doesn't really work IMO.  I am not talking about what was said in the interview, that was a perfectly appropriate way to communicate to the layman the realm that Audeze HP's play in.  Most people have probably been to a friend's house or a listening room and heard a well setup hi-fi stereo system, so he merely connected an experience that most people have probably had with one that most probably have not... the incredible world that you open up with your music when you step up to "audiophile" HP gear.  It isn't the *same* experience by any stretch, but it is the same *kind* of experience... the "OMG, THIS IS AMAZING" falling in love with your music all over again thing, pulling out things you haven't heard in years and realizing that the last 8 hrs passed like it was 15 min and the sun is coming up, time to get ready for work, whoops!  To me it doesn't make sense to say that one is better than the other, they are just different.  There is clearly passion here for both based on the exchange I was reading, which is great, it is nice to be a part an online community passionate about the hobby again :).  Sometimes I am not sure whether I am more passionate about the music, or the engineering and beauty of the gear and the pride of ownership that goes along with it, but putting both together is sublime.  This AK240 I am currently listening to is truly a marvel of engineering, and while the Roxanne universals I am currently enjoying are great, I am very much looking forward to the UERMs and UE18s that are soon on their way thanks to the FANTASTIC deal on the front page.  For whoever made that happen, THANK YOU :).

#4)  Congrats to Audeze, and to Head-Fi, for the well deserved exposure!  Head-Fi has been around forever and truly deserves the recognition(thanks Jude!!!),  who knows where the world of headphone hifi would be without Head-Fi being here all these years, but it certainly would NOT be this evolved with this many choices of technology, etc., this forum bringing together tens of thousands of enthusiasts(more?) together certainly must have drawn the attention of MANY companies that would either never have ventured into HP gear of started as a company at all if it weren't for Head-Fi. And of course the Audeze are indeed incredible, fine choice for Bloomburg to showcase IMO.  That said, until reading this thread my biggest problem has been choosing whether to plug the XC's or the LCD-3 into my HA-1 when I am in an Audeze mood (most of the time, I just happen to be in an IEM mood at the moment :)).  Now... I have two additional dilemmas ;  1)  what to sell to get the LAu and  D100 kit after reading Mike's reviews, and 2) should I send my LCD-3's to be fazored?  After reading how much improved the 2's were... I am wondering again.  I had convinced myself that with the XC's and X's(X's on the way) I would have all the fazor I want, and would keep the LCD-3's as is to enjoy the pre-fazor sound.  But now... off to read more of the pre/post fazor upgrade threads dang it.  If only the upgrade were something that could be added and removed at will (without spending $2K for another set of LCD-3's :p).

Thanks!  Now I don't feel bad, I am just getting into Head-Fi, from the pics it looked like a serious piece of gear that could drive my Veritas 2.8's.  If your intention was to convey powerful and sleek, mission accomplished :D.

EDIT:  WOW this amp is gorgeous, and WOW is it expensive, and one would need two of them... I am going to purposely ignore any and all reviews, I must not want a pair of these :D. GREAT PICS, I am assuming you did all of them :).

I'm curious to know why Alex didn't just kindly correct the host on the pronunciation. I mean everyone outside of head fi in the non-audiophile world now thinks we listen to AWWDEEZZ headphones. Even though I have heard the proper pronunciation hundreds of times at meets started to think "Wait, holy ****, is that really the proper way to pronounce it?!" I almost thought that my next upgrade was going to be the AWWDEEZ LCD3

I think he did the right thing, besides not correcting the host of the show which to me makes it look like the host didn't prepare at all if it is required (we are thinking that now maybe, but of the watchers of that show we are the vast minority), if he had corrected Alex, then the other population would have thought that, so not exposing that is respectful.  Other than that, hard to explain, but there are certain times and places for correcting people and not being rude, and others where it is safer not to, and I think for that format of a TV show the latter is the answer.  Other types of TV shows that don't rely on their "knowledge" as their brand probably not a big deal.  Also, he didn't spend 5-10 sec of his free advertising on something that won't help sell headphones, and with all he had to say, he needed every second of time that is probably worth $100K a minute?  I have no idea, but advertising in that segment/time slot isn't cheap!
