Hey I've been wondering about alessandro headphones for a while now. Can anyone help me out here? Anything about them, let me know, how they sound, and what are the grado equivilent's?

Hey dude, The grado equivalents are as follows

MS1: either SR80 or SR125 (they are debateable to which one)
MS2: SR325
MS2i: SR325i
MS pro: RS1

Well the Grado equivalent of the MS1's is reported to be the SR125's but i don't think there has been any definative proof offered yet

My MS1's were my 1st full size 'propper' headphones - and it was the best $99 i ever spent! I haven't heard the SR125's so i can't comment on the differences between the two but for what it's worth i think they are 'just right'... Detailed without being too bright and with just the right amount of bass response, Fast and tight - not at all overblown They sound good unamped but come on leaps and bounds with one

I'd urge anyone contemplating them to buy... You won't be disappointed!

fwiw, the ms-2 has a 'drier', tamer sound when compared to the 325. treble and the upper mids are toned back slightly to give the distinct impression that the ms-2 is a more neutral sounding headphone than the 325. this also gives the impression that the ms-2 has more deep bass.

I have heard that the MS-1 has SR200 drivers, dunno if this is true though. They sound nothing like SR80s or SR125s IMO.

I thought the SR200 drivers were the Joe Grado "whities"?? The MS-1 is just a standard john grado driver with an epoxy like material on its backside.

they most certainly do not use sr200 drivers.

the ms-1 simply uses sr125's drivers - which are painted with a proprietry solution to destress the diaphragm. same goes for the ms-2/ms-pro, only this time using sr325/rs-1 drivers.

even some sr200s don't use sr200 drivers lol. the "whites" are actually HP1000 drivers. joe grado did make black sr200 drivers - but he popped some HP1000 lovin in some random sr200s for some reason.

and none of the above are in any MS-1s as far as i know! they are modded SR125 drivers methinks.

hey oink1. I have a pair of sr-125's and they sound amazing. The bass is nice and punchy and the highs and mids are very clean and defined...... Just thought you'd like to know.

i really think the MS-1's are tweaked SR-80's. it fits right in with the pricing structure, afterall.

I believe John Grado said the MS-1 was an SR125 equivalent tho. Which makes it even more screwy that the pricing structure is $99. One of the best deals in candom.

I've heard 5 different SR-325 equivalents. A pair of MS-2's, 325i's, the original black 325's, the silver 325's, and my woody 325's. The MS-2's, 325i's, and silver 325's all have very similar sound, almost to the point that they might just pick out the more neutral drivers for the MS-2's. The old black 325's sounded lifeless and distant. Mine are warmer and faster(better low level detail and punchier) than any of the others. If I had to get a new pair, I'd probably go with a recabled MS-2, but any of them would work other than the old 325's. I haven't heard the MS-1's or MS-Pro's, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if the difference between the Allesandro's and Grado's is determined through driver matching instead of tweaking.

ms-pro's sound different to the phones you mentioned. It has the Rs-1's midrange extension as in colouration although the high are rolled off. The Bass also seems to be a little tighter than the rs-1's, but it doesn't seem to have the slam off the Rs-1's. impact is about the same.

Do you know why the old black 325's sounded lifeless and distant? That's because it was using the hp-1000's drivers.

Thats really strange, because I had just listened to a pair of HP-2's, and while they have a neutral sound, they seemed much more engaging than the old 325's. Those may have just been a bad pair.
