Yes,
The bass filter made the overall sound more boomy and less spicy/hot in the treble, but threw off the tonal balance almost entirely.
The reference filter also toned down the treble a bit but the thinness/anemic nature of mids and treble remained.
Mid-high filter was most fun to listen to, but it fatigued my ears within 30 minutes of listening due to the aforementioned spiciness. Thinness of mids and treble was also present, but perhaps a bit less so than the reference filter.
I didn't try the high filter as I was already having pain with the mid-high's.
I returned this, and my IER-m9 should be arriving next week and I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy that a lot lot more than the n5005.
While I do not mean to disparage, I wonder if the somewhat vexing fitment aspects of this IEM lead to much of this type of impression. Assuming the buds are properly and fully set into and secured within the ear, this type of problematic sound profile does not seem like a particularly likely possibility. The frequency graphs further suggest an anomaly of some sort (defective unit, improper fit).
Indeed, proper fit/seal makes a world of difference for IEM's. If the sound is leaking it will have a drastic affect. One needs to play around a bit before drawing any conclusions.
I've found easing them into the ear canal, and gently rotating/twisting the IEM back and forth while doing it so the tip can find the right placement, helps a lot in this regard.
I’ve been using the n5005 for a good few years now and finding the perfect tip has been an ongoing quest . I stuck with comply foams for a while, but I was still determined to find solution that wasn’t foam as I’m not a fan of the process of fitting them and also the constant need to keep replacing them.
I think I may now have found the perfect solution in Moondrop SpringTips. As they are soft but very grippy, I’m getting a decent seal and a much more secure fit than I have experienced so far! I’m sure they won’t work for everyone, but hopefully this helps.

My perfect tips for the AKG n5005 are some no name tips I found on my draw the search for replacements as been long the closest I've got are the spinfit cp 360
One of the included, large-size SpinFits on the left side and an extra-large SpinFit CP100 (I think that is the model) on the right generally works well for me. When these wiggle free, even a bit, I fully appreciate what various critics say about their sound (plasticky, odd timbre, and so forth), but when truly and properly fastened in (more difficult than ideal, but worth it), they are amazing.
The volatile pricing and vaporized publicity represent a case study in orphaned product marketing (concept and development as a successor to the AKG K3003i flowing through traditional (Austrian) AKG, to Harman AKG, to Samsung). Horrible story for product promotion and momentum but great story for value hunters and audio fans.
With current price of $200 AKG (N5005) is SUPER BARGAIN sitting here compared against my Sony M9
Sony may have little more sparkle on top and AKG have little clean deep bass
It can go either way possible amp/dac combination ear tips or type of music you listen to
I’m using IFI gryphon and and Go Bar both sounds amazing
I listen to Blues and country mostly though sometimes reggae and almost little everything
Guys wanted to freshen up this thread, got mine today - they’re wonderful, and of course there was a fit issue - my left ear is a little loose fit, overall W1 Spinfits are great help.
Just running first tunes and I pretty much like how the iem sounds- kinda fresh in all that bone conductor mambo jumbo and electrostatic tweeters
It’s pretty old school I’d say, but in a good way.
For 199$ plus free expedited 2nd day air ups - it’s the greatest iem for the price
For the price - all the way n5005
M9 is a little too soft throughout the freq range
Bass is better on n5005
Get Ares(8 wire)/ Eros and you’re Golden
EA cable fit with no problem
