Do you use a balanced cable? I heard that AMP 8 is a perfect match with N5005. :gs1000smile: And I notice you have the AMP8.
I went back yesterday to the Amp8 to test with N5005, drive quite easily with 90/150 high gain but I fell something was missing, the bass was not as good so I immediately went back to the Amp9 :D I used the balanced stock cable and adapter for both module.

Can you confirm that 5005 filter screw diameter is the same as k3003? I mean that i can order from akg just a midhight boost filter from 5005 and put it to k3003. Does it look the same?

Not at all. N40 / K3003 / N5005 have all different filter size.

Yeah, "miss something" is the issue that I am wondering. And no balanced port on my DAC :disappointed_relieved:

I think the tube sound really suits N5005, treble and mid are smooth and the bass is fantastic. I think comparing to the AMP8 there might be some soundstage trade back but I'm waiting for the new FW to active the high gain output so that it could improve some drive power. Are you using an iBasso device?

Unfortunately, the only ibasso device I have is ibasso DC2 :) for my cellphone. I was planning to buy a used ibasss 200 at the beginning of this year, but I didn't find any good deal...

Yeah DX200 is sitting on a very good price right now, same DAC and AMP as DX220 so I don't think the difference will far from subtle.

Why N5005 is so underrated?

  • Initial price (a sale does these better justice)
  • Difficult tip fit (included tips not for everyone)
  • Disappointing 3.5mm cable (get rid of the inline)
  • Misspelled “supreme”(LOL)

$500 is on par with Shure SE-535 when it first came out, and N5005 is way better. I don't own the SE-846 but I've read that the AKG is even better than that one. So, in my opinion, the $1000 price was right, especially if we consider that it comes with extra cables and a good quality Bluetooth module. I read somewhere that it was meant to be a small production. My N5005 SN is over #10,000 so, I guess it wasn't that underrated in the end.

The problem, in my opinion, was that this particular model was caught in the middle of a restructure. It was developed by Harman USA, under the Austrian AKG branding and built by Korean Samsung in China. What a mess! It was hard to find in certain markets and customer service was near to non existant.

$500 is a steal. If anyone has the opportunity, please try them.

N5005 is worth 1000$, its sound quality cannot be found among IEMs <500$, definitely "expensive" tuning.
