What I heard is that Samsung was very interested in the AKG heritage, wanting to keep alive -- or revive -- what made them unique. Maybe a bit late after the dismantling by Harman... though the new K371 is really nice (not K812-good, but it's in a whole other price bracket as well). So maybe there's hope.
Some time ago I had to have my K812 repaired twice, the plastic ring where the gimbal joint is attached to the headphone shell was broken and the track across the bow was broken (a mistake of the first series). Now it runs again.
Good that I have a service station nearby. https://www.mikrofonservice.at/
Wau, i have found the solution for get the most out of K812.
At laptop music goes through Sonarworks Reference 4, then D/A with Chord Mojo and finally AMP with Schiit Audio Magni 3. The result is as pleasant as i could ever imagine, means there is no need for upgrade this relatively cost effective system, period. End game for me, bc i can hear all i need to hear, and as juicy as one can ever imagine. I think i will just grow old with this and focus other hobbies next : D

Yeah, not without Sonarworks 4, like the fellas said, that's the key to open new world of K812.
When the sound is 'flat' after Sonarworks, the Mojo creates a very open and dynamic sound, which is still quite rough, but Magni 3 smooth out or sleek the sound, so it is more easy going and pleasant, but still very very open and accurate, just perfect, 10/10.
I'm working with mastering tracks as side business, so I have a glue how a good monitoring should sound, and now this is one solution.
I have passed at least 500 hours with K812 and maybe a 100 with Magni 3. K812 are quite badly tuned, so Sonarworks makes the favour for it's hardware - elements, which you will get quite cheap now because of bad reputation : )
I just gave away my K701, which are also better with Sonarworks, but the difference between K812 is like from mono to stereo. K812 are in different league in level of HD800s when they are corrected with Sonarworks.
Anyone knows where can I get detailed instructions about how to modify the K812 to make them balanced? (Rewiring thwm and replacing Lemo 3 for Lemo 4). If not, anyone knows a reliable place in Europe to perform the mod?
Thanks!

Hello, I don't know how to do it with the K812 (did the K712 myself, but K812 is probably different inside???). Maybe you can try to ask Matt from Forza Audioworks > matthew@forzaaudioworks.com
Than you will profit from a very nice Forza Audioworks cable as a bonus!
