Hey MacBob! How's the amp matching coming along? I have been admiring your efforts from afar. I have been having fun with the 812 running off the Bryston BHA-1 and Woo Audio WA2. :)

Still groovin' the K812 with the Phonitor 2. Everything's hitting on all cylinders. This combo really rocks. How about you, anything new or different?

Gonna be getting a HUGO in soon, and am very curious about how it pairs with the K812. I currently don't have any source that can drive the 812 to the best of its ability, so as of now, I'm on the fence in regards to its performance

That's good to hear, MacBob! Hmm...
Well, a few things have been brewing. Guess the significant one in terms of my desktop rig is I picked up a Bricasti M1 DAC to replace the old faithful Benchmark DAC1. It actually helps the clarity and dynamics of the entire chain. :)

+1 on that combo.  I got a Phonitor Mini coming soon.  Should be fun.  :)

If you got a tube amp, consider the paring as well.  K812 sounds really really good with tubes.

+1 for the K812 on tubes. I always thought the K812 sounded amazing on tubes ever since I first auditioned the headphone. The K812 with a good tube amp is basically the end-game setup for me.

+2 I run mine off the Woo Audio WA2. Sublime. :)

+1 if it sounds as good as it looks (which I don't doubt in the slightest)

If anyone is interested, I am selling my 3 months old one for $1000. While I liked them, I realized that for me they ultimately were a level below the HD800 with the amps I have, and I do not feel like pursuing an amp just for these at this time. That said, I'm sure these are on par with the HD800 when properly amped as many will attest to that here. I still highly recommend these and they are the second best sounding headphones I've ever owned despite suboptimal amping.

You have an extensive collection of gear. Which one do you consider your favorite?

Hmmm.... My favorite has to be the Final Audio Design FI-BA-SS. It opened up my ears to the emotions and nuances behind the music.

In terms of amps, it would have to be the Bryston BHA-1: perfect balance between refinement and power. & so versatile.

Cool, never even heard of those! But I'm sure they are suberb brother. Where would you rank your K812?

In terms of full sized cans, it would come only after the Abyss, which is not a bad position to be in. :)
