Not really. I consider the Sennheiser HD800 as part of the old generation headphones that require high end amplifiers. It's not the answer for the AKG K812. 
 
The next generation headphones are more efficient and can sound great from even your iDevice or laptop. If Sennheiser can make a HD800 that is easy to drive, then they have the answer for the AKG K812. 
 
edit: The AKG K812 is still overpriced though if the HD800 is priced at only 1200 euro while sounding better apparently.

I can agree this,I could very good live with the extrem analytical true sound - they present what the source serve.

Do the K-812 also have more treble spikes compare to the HD-800?

The AKG sounds no sterile and the treble spikes are in my ears less than the HD-800. Analytical with K812 means more information and more detail from the record than any other headphone that i had. For some people maybe to many information or to realistic, but a new feeling of hearing.

The HD 800 could be considered bright and has a certain sound signature that is quite boring to some which leads to some people considering them dull and clinical. I think he means the K812 are more resolving of detail and I personally found AKGs to have an inherent euphony even on the brighter models, so they shouldn't sound boring by any stretch.

I beg to differ? There are numerous user saying the Vali pairs very good with HD800, and it's $120. They go as far as saying they don't feel the need to upgrade to more expensive amps.
 
 
And when I auditioned HD800 and K812 both are running from the same amp, which was the WA7 (very bad pairing with K812), and Soloist SL (which is not at all a 'high end' amp).

Yes, the HD800 certainly doesn't "need" an expensive amp. It sounded decent out of Audiquest Dragonfly. However, it definitely scales well with better gear. And some high performance/value ratio amps exist, the Vali sounding like one. The Soloist SL would be another. I preferred it with the HD800 over my (at the time) Audio-GD SA-31, as well as Violectric V200 and WA22. So much so that I bought the full size Soloist. It just seems like the K812 scales much easier possibly than the HD800, according to impressions.
