I am looking forward to hearing this. I am not a headphone person but circumstances got me into getting this. Either way it is going to be a fun experience if the product follows the same standard as the AKG K3003.

I had a brief listening session with this headphone today and while the soundstage was pretty wide, I found that it made it too distant for me to appreciate it well. It's just not my kind of phones.

Then you should give the HD800 a listen, even wider soundstage, great for orchestral pieces. I find the AKG to be, for lack of a better term, more intimate sounding than the HD800. But then, I like a lot of different signature sound, and have no real preference with regards to the cans I like, and are willing to buy. I'll be getting a Philips Fidelio X1 just for the heck of it, and eyeing either a K702 Anni or K7XX.....

Akg arrived today and less than 2 hours listening. I dusted off my k702 and used them briefly and to my ears they still sound good. Not sure if k812 worth the extra money. That is sadly bit of a let down.

A quick update: I do see why this is advertised as a professional headphone, it is quiet a nicely balance headphone. There is no particular frequency that stands out. However I noticed that the sound signature is the kind that you would not notice how loud you have turned your volume until you take it off your head. I am lucky as I get ear fatigue real easily if I listen too loud.

Be careful if you are listening to your k812, while you might not notice it the sound is louder than what you think.

yes sire, not side by side but I did have extensive ear time at my local hifi shop who only carries the HD800 and Oppo PM-1.
I think HD800 without it being hooked to a proper amp is has the better soundstage and better neutrality. (Perhaps prefence plays a role.)
But fit-wise HD800 is much more comfortable.

My only concern is K812 tuning asks for a louder listening, that is risky thing. AKG K812 is quiet a let down, k3003 is still their best modern product (havent hear the K1000).

I paid $1,000 USD for mine, so I think it's well worth the money over the K/Q70x. The K/Q70x has a wide soundstage, but the imaging is a mess which, they improved upon with the K812.

But I agree with you, the HD800 has bigger & wider soundstage with better imaging and sounds more neutral, while the K812 sounds more natural with its holographic vocals presentation.

I will be writing my review of the K812 shortly. Loving the  time spending with the K812 great headphone. The impressive thing for me is the different sound signature than prior AKG model Schuster did a terrific job with the sound signature. Easy to drive and very transparent with right amount of bass. Running it in with the Burson Virtuoso right now and its a nice match.

I agree 100%  .  I liked it enough to let my LCD-X go.  No regrets.

how do you like it 62?

I really like it, actually. It sounds more similar than different with the HD800, yes, but it can also serve different purpose. I like its holographic vocals presentation, it makes for a very captivating listening experience, though IMO at the cost of clarity. Thus, the HD800 sounds clearer and more neutral, while the K812 sounds more natural, alive and captivating.

I have to admit the HD800 gets much more head-time than the K812 in my home (granted, my amp is an HDVA 600), but I like the fact that the K812 still sounds good out of a portable device.
