Wow...Thanks for posting pictures! You are an AKG guy! hahaha...Well...it looks like a black/navy blue version of K701~! Can't wait for people's review in depth comparing K701 and K702!

yeah. i think they look better too.

the detachable cable looks cool and i like the white ring on the earcup. that looks good. sonically they should be the same and my current 701 is balanced, so i don't see myself getting one of these anytime soon. but the 702 does look quite nice.

Dear FritzS,

Is your K701 still use standard cable?
what's the different of K701 and K702 standard cable, physically? which one is more flexible? which one is thicker? (in your picture, it looks to me that K701 cable is thicker (bigger diameter)?

Thanks,

Dear David,
yes - the cable from the K701 is a bit thicker and a bit more flexible. But I can't say if the wires are different or the same .....

Why makes AKG the K702? Many professionals use the K701 in studios - but "white" is not the best color and would be dirty quickly ..... and second (I think) cable broken very often in roughen day-to-day of studio-life - so the K702 was born as "twin" of the K701 ..... K701 for HighEnd home audio, K702 for professional studio life. For the AKG studio line headphones gives two cables, one straight and one a spiral-cable. All cables are 99,9% OFC.

Dear FritzS,

thanks for your answer regarding the cable.... I'm really curious since I'm about to get K701, but now there is K702. Frankly I prefer K702 darker color since It will not be easily dirty (I'm living in dusty and poluted Indonesia).... But the cable difference makes me think twice before getting K702...

I'm not really concerning about cables in Audio... (thus I will not spend fortune for cables)... but my experince also tell me that wire size, wire material and cable geometry do make sound different... so like K702 case, if only they make the ground wire thicker, it should not compromise/change a lot to the dual/bi-wiring "sound" character of the K701...

How do you find the K702 this far? How does it sound different from K701.... if any?

Thanks,
---

I bet some people will claim to notice differences - like those that claim the beyerdynamic dt 880 pros sound different to the non pro version, and hd650's with black filters sound different to those with white filters (the filter is designed to keep dust out of the drivers for chrissakes!).
