AKG K167 TIËSTO - Discussion, Impression, Review & Appreciation Thread

I decided to see how some Hard Rock from the 80's sounds like with the K167 and it sounds so energetic, so lively, so full and engaging, totally new experience. I love to hear to this stuff from these phones. Nothing to do with any other ohone I have tried before. A much richer, "high-end" experience. TIËSTO's the guy ; )

I thought about the, DT770 80ohm, COPs, Amperior, Momentums, M80, M100, LP2 (love the build of all Vmoda) Pro 750, LE518, UE6000, PSB MU2/M1, P5, AKG 550 and so far these still reign supreme. Of course, the 167 are the only ones I haven't heard yet. Well, I haven't heard the COPs either. And these fit my price range best, but those damn 267 have all the features I want, with the unknown, the sound....

So again I say, 167+e11? Or 267 with no amp.

Ill be pulling from an ipod classic

Nothing is guaranty that the 267 will sound better than the 167. It's all about sound signature and preference. Maybe the 167 will be too bassy for me. Maybe the HP 700 is all I need. :D

The 267 have different driver so it's and all new game.

...And the build quality is starting to wear on me. Thinking about that poor pair falling apart. The 267 are all aluminum, right? Got to be tougher, no?

So if they just don't screw up the sound the 267 are perfect?

DANG IT!!!!!!!! Whysohard?

hmm, definitely K167 + E11, if you can't amp the K267.

To help those on the fence, I remember hearing somewhere on head-fi (can't remember the thread now..) - that the K167 sound signature is replicated between the Club and Stage settings on the K267. That means that the K267 will provide an even more balanced experience on studio mode, and even more bass on stage mode.

I never care for warranties. I'm that person that will buy a $400 GPU and take it apart as soon as I get home to replace the stock thermal paste and heatsink. I have that 'do it yourself' mentality.

Not wise enough, sounds like its your miscarriage problem.
If it really AKG's built quality fault replacement-warranty is the best way to solve this potential problem.

This just makes me want to wait and go 267 unamped.

The customer service didn't even know that the product existed. First they said this might be a Pro product, so ask them. Then the pro dept said it might be a consumer product, so ask them. Then there was email forwarding to different departments. They even asked when and where I bought it....friggin on Amazon.

And you want me to get a replacement?

They were polite about it and tried to get me some help, but I was like no thanks.

These sound like they are getting amazing reviews. Like others here I'm not a "basshead" but I like a definate bass presence. I'm kinda on the fence about getting another pair that are circumaural as I have a set of M80's which I really like allot but something a bit more detailed and more home use oriented would be nice. Anyways, I have also read many great things about Soundmagics intro into headphones, the HP100, but after reading all this I'm undecided. If anyone has listened to both please let me know your impressions between these two. Gotta say, the cracked housing has me a bit skeptical...
