What headphones are in competition with the K167's at this price point? People in the forums are stating these sound similar or better than the D2000/D5000s. I wasn't a huge fan of the Denons to be honest. I have the AKG181s and I love them. I am hoping the 167s will grow on me.

In a word: none. I prefer them over the D5000's. To be more specific, mids are more forward, highs are better (better resolution), bass is better (tighter, deeper, more controled and detailed).

Yes, I've owned the D5000's. Did not like them as much as the K167's. The Numarks were heavily modded, BTW. And no, they didn't even come close to the D5ks. I never said they did. They came close to the DENON HP700 after my mods.

50 hours of pure bass torture at very loud volumes and they became a basshead can straight out of my JDSLabs C421 (Bass Boost) + Sony A865 (Clear Bass) + LOD.

Great ear massage ala M-Audio Q40

Dudes, these AKG drivers need ALOT of driver exercise to reveal all their potential. They have nothing to do with what I got straight out of the box and even 50 hours ago ; )

Bye K267

I was disappointed with the d2000/5000s. Such flabby bass. I was disappointed with the overall quality of the sound. I'm hoping the overall sound of the 167s will tighten up. I mix/DJ with these. I do a lot of mixing in my headphones. So I have been on a quest for the perfect headphones that sound clean but also deliver warm sound. I like my music on the louder side. The sources are all higher quality mp3s, using a high model Allen-Heath mixer, which tends to make sounds even warmer.

I'm excited to know that these headphones have recieved such high praise alreadly. Getting these cheaper, $140 new, has also made me feel like I won.

Just to confirm, you are stating the K167 provides comparable bass impact to the Q40?????

Yes, now they give you that ear massage (with my setup, don't forget that). And after 100 hours burn-in plus 50 hours torture. Pink noise does little.

But the bass is tighter than the Q40s. I prefer this bass hands down.

I will half agree and say they sound a little weird out of the box. But I am gonna give them time to burn in (assuming that shall help) and I will try to get a good amp for them at some point since these sound like they need some juice. Overall though besides the weird tonality (I don't find it totally natural ATM) these are detail monsters.

Ok, maybe exaggerated but still sounded distorted. I don't want to be disappointed by these!

Source/bad recordings/conversions. They are so revealing that you need to use MP3 Gain to reduce distortion on those MP3's. I had to do it with alot of bad stuff I got here. Now they sound 100% clean.
