Which one would you buy? K-240 mkII with velour pads or HD-595 ?

Or is there other models which you recommend (under $200 or so)?

My requirements are:
Detachable cord!
At least same low end frequency response as Grados ( I mean bass)
low impedance (no amp, just soundcard)
velour > leather

I have Grado SR-125 now but they broke :/
Tried to replace cord but also snapped the pin which holds the phone.

The 240 has high impedance unless things have changed and the 595 is incredibly boring. If you like the Grado sound get someone to mod it for a detachable cord. I did it to a pair of mine and it was really easy.

The new k240's are 55ohm, but the sound of the older 600ohm models is better. The new model is boosted around 180-200hz and are kind of dull...at least compared to the k240DF.

I m thinking of buying akg k240 mkII and its love em or hate em there is no middle here !
I ve read that they are good for rock but pretty much sucks for all other genres !
Think that the hd 595 is safe choice and better all-rounder thats why im going with akg k240 mkII

If you like the sound of the 240 MKll, you can try used K701 on FS forum.

K701 doesn't have detachable cord.

K-242 HD was also option for me as its cheap at local store but again.. no detachable cord :[

I would go for the HD-595 I own em' and I love them.. Bass is perfect.. Not an AKG fan.

Perfect bass I don't know. I find it thin, lacking. Somewhat articulate and tight, but far from perfect imo.

I bought AKG K-240 mkII and have been listening them and I like sound, overall isn't as pleasant as Grados but I still like how they perform basses.

BUT, they make my ears hurt

Grados with HD-414 is a lot more comfortable.

I also tested Shure SRH-240 and they were also very uncomfortable. I though it was because of leather pads. I use velours with AKG.

Maybe circumaural phones aren't for me ...

What would you recommend me to do? I already repaired cord of Grados but now left earcup doesnt stay on its place because small part snapped..

i tested AKG k701 vs Sennheiser HD-595  with industrial and rock music . i like more the Sennheiser HD-595,  boths responds really good ! but Sennheiser has a little more bass  and has  the sensation of more db ..but i  want to know  about the AKG K240MKII ..the akg k240 has  the  same  characteristics of k701 ?
now my question is: do you think that the AKG K240 MKII  can match the same qualities that the sennheiser hd 595 model has?
