AK 240 Stainless Steel Edition Thread

Google is your friend.

I thought Google was my friend, however, it seems Google has decided against us being friends as Google has been less than forthcoming in regards to this info. What I found instead was a review with a modded MOJO with balanced out and what I can only presume is the official site which at the moment doesn't mention anything much less happen to be totally set up.

Any help would be appreciated as always

Did you simply copy and paste the item name from the post into Google and hit enter?

"Musashi Sound Tech modded AK240SS"

It's not an SS, but it is a 240.

Shigzeo has a nice review of a non-SS AK240-R on ohm image.

Thanks Oldman, I actually put "Musashi sound technology mod AK 240". As you can see not a lot of results, but I thank you for steering me in the right direction. I've been thinking about getting the blue note but was considering Rwa before I found out the news recently.
Thank you as well Overkill Red.

Vinnie is no longer doing them anymore since focusing on his company, essentially. So it would seem at the present, anyone looking to have their unit modded would have to hit up MST.

Thank you for the update, I had no idea.

Depends on what sound you like.  The RedWine has more bottom end and warmth and the SS should have a bit more detail in the upper mids and trebles (not that it's bass-light).  I really enjoy my SS but I'm not a basshead.  The SS was a definite upgrade from my 120ll, so if you have a 100 it should be fairly major.  I've never had a RedWine but I've read a lot about them and the procedure to create them.  Maybe someone else will weigh in who has/had one.

Edit- can't say what the difference would be if any of the above was run through a Mojo- likely you are going to hear the Mojo more than the transport.

Hi olddude, thanks for the feedback. If I get the ak240, I would probably sell my ak100 and mojo. I was wondering how the ak100 and mojo stack compares with the ak240 alone. The ak240ss was going for S$1750 and the rwak240 for S$1200. One store in Singapore selling a brand new ak240 for S$1999. Fingers getting itchy....

I still use my Mojo with my 240SS, it just sounds better to me than when used by itself. Perhaps I just prefer the sound of the FPGA design in the Mojo.

Regarding being used as a transport, many have reported that the 240SS does improve the sound over a less expensive DAP, including the AK100/II. As to why this can be, it is a contentious issue. I've never been able to test this theory since I don't own another DAP. However, it would not surprise me in the least if it is true; reproduction of lossless music can be improved by greater resonance control, tighter tolerance internal componentry, and better circuit design, all of which are hallmarks of the 240SS.

I suspect the RedWine 240 is "better" than the stock 240, and my 240SS is superb and, I've read, is (quite) superior to a stock 240.  Again, it comes down to sound sig.  The 240 can be had fairly cheaply used, and the prices you quote for the SS and the RedWine seem quite good.  I paid $1600 for mine and am the third owner, but it is pristine.  There are a few very sketchy SS's for sale on Amazon for around $500 but I wouldn't touch those- sellers don't look like the real deal.  I saw a few used for $1900-2300 on eBay, so your price looks pretty good.  Make sure the volume knob is in good working condition (not loose) before buying.

Itchy fingers are good.  I'm going to CanJam in a few weeks and my hands are twitching thinking about an Empire Ears Zeus R.  If I go for it, will be selling my Angie and Moon cables.  The UERM is going nowhere.
