I'm looking for a new pair of headphones as my Bose QC2 lead frayed, and I can't be bothered to ship a new one in from America when most people's opinion on the company and the phones are less than stellar.

Boiled down, I'm looking for a pair of over-ear noise cancelling headphones that can play any type of music well, but with a bit of extra bass. I have no idea what brand to look for apart from Bose or Sennheiser, so assistance from those more knowledgable than me would be greatly appreciated.

the best headphones that i tried under $500 is the Sennheiser HD650 and they sound good out of a delicated desktop amp... but to me, the hd650 is a little light on the bass attack:) Hope this helps

^^Um, did you even read his post?  He specified noise cancellation and that is something the HD650 is not.  Anyway, if you're looking for top noise cancellation then you'll find that Denon, Audio-Technica and Sennheiser have excellent options.
