And also, 24 bit may be useful. There are many people on head-fi who recommend setting Windows to output 24 bit *if* you ever need to use the computer based volume control instead of the volume control on your device. The theory is that when you decrease the volume on Windows, you can lose bits of audio signal. But if you are listening to 16bit audio that has been converted to 24bit by Windows, then you have plenty of bits to lose that have no information as you turn the volume down with the digital control. I think have that right (lol).

So for example later on, if you buy some speakers, you may want to use your laptop keyboard volume control instead of having to change the volume on the speakers themselves.
