Ok sorry guys, didn't get the time to upload pictures last night. Here are 3 of them to show how astonishing the finish is. It's definitely time for everyone to stop thinking there's no personalization possibility with silicon customs !
As you can see, the precision of the engraving is really good, no misshaping, no fuzzy line, just the way it's supposed to be. For the colour, it was initially planned in white writing on black silicon. Funny enough, Andy sent me a picture of Shigzeo's set as an example of what it should look like
. But at the moment of the production, the lab technicians didn't like the result, and they decided to try with another colour. In the end they settled for a gold writing, which they proposed to me. The result was as good as what you can see here but it was a bit different from what I had in mind initially, so I asked them if they could do it in silver. They hadn't think about it, but they told it should be fine too. I decided to keep the silver when they showed me the picture.
As Shigzeo was explaining it, the cable is :
1- Reaaaaaally long
2- Really good.
It doesn't tangle and keeps its shape, while feeling sturdy and soft. I couldn't hear much microphonics (if any actually), but I'm accustomed to Etys, so maybe my mind isn't paying attention to it. I wrote to Andy about the cable length, and he told me they were aware that it could be inconvenient for some clients, namely the Hi-Fi crowd who doesn't perform on stage with these babies. Actually their cable is custom made for ACS so they just have one size it seems, but he also thinks they'll be able to propose different sizes in the future ("as our business develops"). I think I would have appreciated a cable guide to keep it on the top of the hears, but I'll get accustomed to that too I suppose. The jack is perfect, and since it's moulded to the cable, it's also very sturdy.
The last picture is too show the very elegant solution ACS found to a simple problem : how to clean the sound bores if they're solid black ? Andy proposed me this when I explained him I was hesitating between solid black which is gorgeous, and clear silicon which is easier to see when cleaning is needed. I don't know if Shigzeo was the first set made with this solution, or if he was the one with the original idea, but frankly it's just perfect. What's funny to me is that the look is extremely reminiscent of the Westone acrylic/vinyl tip combination. And I think it serves partially the same purpose.
I still need time to learn how to properly insert it, but I think I have a good seal with the ear cream as I'm not missing the bass. I want to pass the Sensaphonics test before I consider it good. My left ear seems slightly looser than the right one, but maybe it's just the way I put it on. Since it's my first pair of customs monitors, it will be a while before I'm really comfortable with it, but so far they sit in my ear without any pain.
That's it for now. Sorry for the not so clear pics, Shigzeo obviously has a better camera than me
