The ak240 is not quite a comparable price.

You are unnecessarily hurting the M2's credibility if you assume the AK240 is better because it is more expensive, unless you do actually think the AK240 is better and is priced as such, in which case I've lost interest in the M2, because imo the AK240 is worth about 1.5k.

I'm not sure how you concluded this. I am just not sure it is accurate to grab a comparison between something that costs so much more. Granted the M2 is astonishingly good for £899 as I have stated above, in my opinion it isn't as good as the AK240 but even if you perceive the AK240 to be "worth" 1.5k it isn't. It's £2200. I think that if people are looking for a DAP at the £899 price point then I would surmise they would be looking at DAPs of between £700 - £1400. Again I am surmising. A Ferrari 458 Speciale may drive better than a Caterham 7 but I wouldn't look at buying the Ferrari if I couldn't afford it. I would be trying other cars like the Lotus Elise 111 or TVR Cerbera. I would put the M2 easily up against the AK100 and AK120 II. :)

Just my opinion that the sound + features of the 240 are worth 1.5k to me personally, wasn't concluding anything, just stating my opinion. Also the 120ii and 240 should practically sound the same as they are identical in dac/amp circuit, 240 just adds xmos chip for native dsd, although I am unsure if the xmos chip is utilized in pcm playback, in which case the 240 would sound slightly different due to different processing.

thanks phil, i think your statement back fired at you :)

it happens to all of us, but I understand your point, but sometimes sky rocket priced daps like ak240 can be intimidating and we all know you are paying mainly for brand name of ak and not for sound quality

I don't agree, I think price has a big impact on comparing a product. Why would a consumer be wanting a comparison between a FiiO X1 and an AK240SS for example?

fair enough. That makes sense. I could afford an M2 and couldn't afford an ak240 even if it was £1500. Even if the AK240 did or didn't sound better I couldn't afford it anyway.
