sorry reverendo, haven't heard it.

Quote:

60 % tax. That's insane. I thought our 22 % was like the highest there is.

Can you say 25?`

Well the tax part is 22 % and then there's the customs part which is usually 1-3 %.

Sorry for offtopic.

Yep,
things are kind of tough around here. I'd be happy if we had politicians that weren't corrupt, but unfortunately that's not the case. Ah, and don't forget: the taxes are calculated INCLUDING the postage fare. Direct import normally doesn't get that taxed, but the end consumer importantion has to pay his 60%. And it's still worth while compared to the prices practiced around here... at least for electronics.
Have a nice weekend y'all!
regards
André

I have been looking into my options and unfortunately I can't have anyone send V6's out of Norway right now. Plan B would involve me going to Norway myself, sending the packages from Oslo myself, then heading home the same day. Travelling expenses would be about 200USD which is kind of a turnoff.

Hi Niemion,
thanks for giving a feedback. in the mean time I have bought a DAC. It arrived today and I haven't had time to set it up yet.
It's the North Star 192 MkII DAC and I am very eager to find out how it will sound...
thanks anyway for your kind offer, but the DAC I have now is most probably superior to the V6. I would still be curious to listen to it someday...
all the best
André

The NS192mk2 is a very nice DAC. I think you'll like it.

reverendo, no problem. Looks like a nice DAC, hope you'll have it soon.

To be fair, the performance doesn't exactly make it worth being hunted down anyway.

Sure, it's a comercially available dac from a company that's bigger than a one man operation, and it's better than the dacmagic in terms of, well, basically everything from depth through detail through soundstage, but it's not going to make anyone sell their 2000$ cd/vinyl decks anytime soon, which was ultimately what I was hoping for in this, as well as with the benchmark, which was also something of a disappointment.

Phew, huge run-on sentence.

In regards to comparison to the ecd1, I find it slightly warmer and somewhat lacking of bite, bite that the ecd1 doesn't really have to begin with, making what is in my opinion, a sound which is comfortable enough to listen to for hours, but uninteresting enough to make you not want to. It looks and feels gorgeous, though.

Thanks for the observations, Lilac. Your comparison to the ECD-1 is very helpful. If this were identical to or even just slightly better than the ECD-1, I would have to call it a great deal. But your comments seem to indicate it does not equal that DAC.

As a point of reference, what mid-range DACs would you consider to easily exceed the V6, if you have one in mind?

Oh someone's cooking up something....
http://www.barnsly.ru/upload/File/br...L_HD10_ENG.pdf

Initial response has been favorable, but it's still pending release.
Ignoring the bloated statements from the pdf, if this thing sounds like their cd players it's going to be a mandatory buy.

And it will likely be available domestically for you guys. As far as I know, Hegel just got a north american distributor.

Well,
I've been listening to the North Star 192 MkII DAC.... and it's FANTASTIC...
the rest of my system is so obviously beneath it's level that I think that I'm just tapping at it's real performance...
would just love to be able to get I2S out of my SB Receiver, but it seems almost impossible and propably not a cost/benefit endeavor...
still waiting for my Welborne Power Supply for the Receiver...

PS: can anybody recommend me a closed headphone for mixing in the USD 300 price range? Neutrality mandatory which could be driven rather easily, e.g. without amp initially. Sorry about the offtopic.

I don`t own a V6.0 my self, but I have a V1.0 and V2.0 upgraded versions. The dac in V1.0 is the same as in V6.0, according to Thomas Abrahamsen. So far there`s few places you can buy this outside the nordic countrys. But there is a store in Greece. AudioEvolution unfortanatly they don`t have the V6.0, but maybe they can get? There`s another webstore that sell V6.0 in Norway. I don`t know if they send abroad, but maybe it`s worth to contact them?Abrahamsen V6.0 D/A konverter - Musikklink AS

Anyway, klick on the link "kontakt oss" It means contact us. I hope this will be helpful. A shame that I did not know about the Brazilian here in July. I went to Sao Paulo that month. I could have brought it.
