You're probably right. To me it looked like those cardboard inserts they put in brand-new PCDPs to keep the transport/pickup mechanism from moving around a lot.

Okay I'mnot seeing any cardboard here. Are we talking about the actual disc in the player in the main pic for this thread? If so...that is not a cardboard insert but a disc Shanling packages with their cd players. If you can see SACD the it is likely a hybrid disc they used from the T200. My unit came with two discs, same tracks one disc redbook, one disc HDCD.

Are there compromises made for the sake of appearance? Like Bang & Olufson gear, just because it looks "space-age" and sleek and slim and unusual, doesn't mean it sounds good. I have no idea if any of those concerns are relevat, have never heard any Shanling or this one, but that's what comes to mind when I see gear like this.

I agree it is a complete copy of Oracle. As for the implementation...I can't say. I know that the circuit design for the T100 and 200 are pretty well the same as Krell and Mark Levinson (so says Thorsten the guru of modding) but as for this new one..perhaps? Can't say, I am interested though in having a look and a listen. I'm sure the local Shanling dealer will have one soon.

That is one KILLER-looking cdp!! Looks like the designers decided to steer clear of that oh-so-popular bland industrial look of the majority of high-end cdps (at least in my opinion) out there.

Yep. That's what I was trying to recall. The My Simon game. Knew it looked familiar.

If anyone figures out the price I'd be interested in knowing. I think it looks better than the initial T-100/200, but the newer model T-100/200s with the upgraded chassis looks nice IMO. However the unit is decent looking and I could live with it, its just the sound i'm concerned with and if its much of an improvement over the T-200.

EDIT: Woah 12 burr brown OPA627s, thats $100 right there.

Thanks for the update Zanth ... I like it's looks!

However ... it kinds makes my S-100 MK II look pretty sad in comparison.

One thing I found interesting from the link was that the T300 has OPA627's in both the IV and output sections. I also found from the same website that, I think it was the previous T200, had OPA627's in the IV section but OPA2604's in the output section. Reason I found it interesting was that I put OPA627's in my CD player in both the IV and output sections. It sounds good to me although I don't want to hear the higher Shanling models until I win the lottery.

Before I modded my player I tried to find information regarding best op amps to put in IV sections (ie maybe higher speed would be better??, mix of AD & TI??, etc) versus output sections but as you can probably guess there doesn't seem to be much definitive data around.

I drop into Ottawa from time-to-time as my wife has relatives there ... if you don't mind I'll give you a call to chat on one of those visits.

Happy listening ... Gord SW Ont.

The ps-1's were making a metallic resonance type sound and at moderate volumes they were making staticy/schreechy sounds on dynamic parts in the the music, especially the right side. Hopefully they will be in grados hands at the end of next week. I can tell you that the resolution and smoothness of the combo was pretty incredible. My system is a heck of a lot more neutral with ps-1 + empress then it was with rs-1 + active golds hehe. Might take some time to get used to that. For now though, these sr60's are quite coloured enough.
