A free parametric equalizer for Windows Vista, 7, and 8 that doesn't need ASIO or VST, it works inline at the OS level

Sorry if it's a very dumb/lazy question, but I've disabled my onboard sound card because it was conflicting with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro, and I think this USB sound card runs on ASIO (?). Since all sounds in my computer are coming from this card, can anyone tell me if the EqualizerAPO would work (or would the ASIO driver be a problem in normal applications, like Firefox or Winamp?)? Thanks for any thoughts!

I use several USB ASIO devices and it's no problem. This is hooking into the windows audio pipeline which is device independant. It doesn't matter if it's USB, PCI, Soundblaster, Realtek, etc, as long as the windows audio pipeline is used.

If you are using the EQ, then load up fruityloops and enable ASIO mode, the EQ will be off. Close fruity loops and it will be back automatically. This is a good thing as it means you can have a great EQ AND not have it color any audio mixing you are doing as it shuts off for ASIO.

Hello,

I am trying to get this EQ working. I downloaded the first set of files and then was told to download REW from this site: http://www.roomeqwizard.com/#downloads. But I can't get registered because the first question they ask to prove I am a human has some sort of error and it won't show up. Does anyone have these files that they can send me?

Thanks,
Greg

My guess is they let the website suffer from digital rot. You probably don't want to use that anymore though since somebody wrote a GUI for Equalizer APO that updates the .txt file in near real time. IE works just like any graphic eq. The links in the thread somewhere around the middle.

Kodhifi,

Would you mind putting together a "for dummies" set of instructions for getting this working from start to finish including the GUI?

I've got the EQ31 GUI started up but it doesn't do anything when I move the sliders...

Sorry, for the ignorance here...

Thanks!
Greg

Everything is instructed already (EqualizerAPO Wiki, EQ31 documentation)

Simplified routines:

1. install EqualizerAPO, select devices in Configurator and finally check that everything works in your system (try by changing the Preamp: value in config.txt and save the file)

2. extract EQ31 .7z file at some location in your HD, run eq31.exe, select the EqualizerAPO's config.txt as its output file (can be changed through menu Options-->Preferences-> Set Output File) and finally press the Power button to ON state and start EQing

?? I watch netflix with this all of the time. It's just an audio enhancement in line with the windows WDM model. The same as any of the enhancements from Realtek, Creative Labs, etc.

it is a year after the OP and there is a new GUI for use with Equalizer APO,

PEACE, my brothers:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/peace-equalizer-apo-extension/

This one is free and works reliably on all of the Win 7 and 8 systems I've installed it on, unlike some of the rest.

I know of no "Comes With" equalizer tool for any sound card that is in the same Country let alone Zip code.

It will stand tall with some of the best VST plugs but is more global and easier to use and install.

Download this and Equalizer APO, reboot and you will be asking how something this simple and powerful can be free.
