Hi iohk,

Does it appear to survive the flight? Would be a shame if these battery issues persist firmware update after firmware update. I assume you're using FW version 0.6?

It seems different users have different experiences when it comes to how long they can use their players. I am now on FW 0.96. I do not think I have been able to reach 6 hours in one go, but it has never been as bad as 4 hours for example. On the plane, I use the power made available - this of course becomes a function of the airline one is flying, the type of seat etc...I have also used the external battery that I have to carry for my phone...At the moment, it is more than manageable. It would be nice if new firmware could improve battery life. It would also be nice to have some expectations as to how long one could play files that require more processing than others.

This might be of interest to potential UK buyers, however perhaps take it with a pinch of salt...

I've just been speaking to a local independent AV specialist (they have a store in the town I work - location and name of the shop will remain a mystery for now as "negotiations" are still ongoing), but they are currently trying to secure a deal with Calyx (through, it sounds like, an intermediary, although the guy I was speaking to would neither confirm nor deny either way) to stock the M (they also carry Fiio and iBasso DAPs).

IF negotiations are successful, then the absolute cheapest they will be able to sell it for is £1300.  Anything less than that, and it will apparently be costing them money just to have the thing on display.  Disappointing, given that for a couple of hundred more you can get a second hand AK240 (and for roughly the same price, buy a brand new one from overseas - customs risk aside).

But, I say take it with a pinch of salt, cos if they are sourcing it from somewhere other than Calyx direct, then they will obviously be paying extra to that supplier, so that £1300 is not necessarily a true reflection of what the UK price might end up being.  If it ever becomes available over here!

Bear in mind that is a high street price (this company does not have a web store) and would include any extra taxes they have to pay, plus whatever they're paying the intermediary.

But yeah, pricy.

But then that's the way technology is typically priced in the UK.

If you are in market to buy a unit for the calyx M I suggest you guys to wait. Based int their Facebook post they are making so changes to their future dap which includes using a larger battery.

$999 in the US.  But no shipping to Canada so... sigh.

Who in the US is selling this DAP?

I see from your signature that you live in or near Ottawa and are therefor not too far from the border. If you are willing to forgo any manufacturer warranty there are several different services that will allow you to ship to their location close to the border and all you have to do is cross over and pick it up. They are very reliable, designed specifically for this purpose, and usually extremely inexpensive. The entire trip depending on exactly where you will be traveling from should take no more than three hours max.

Actually that applicable to the current model as well:
Not to make you misunderstand, those things are for the current model.

We meant we designed and are manufacturing M for future proof, battery-wise as well as memory-wise...
