Is shipping from Germany to the US really that expensive?

I’m trying to get replacement ear pads for a pair of Ultrasone headphones and I’m quoted 102 euros for the pads and 70 euros for the shipping. 172 euros for just a set of replacement ear pads for the Edition 10s.

This. seems. Crazy.

Anyone know where I might be able to get replacement pads in the US?

Thanks.

You are getting conned obviously.
Pads are expensive at 102, but no way it cost 70€ to send them. That should be way cheaper considein its gonna be a pretty small package.

Yeah, the shipping seemed quite high to me. The reason I asked is I’ve only shipped one item from US to England (medium box) and it cost me close to $60, if I recall correctly. Germany is further away, I think, so I was curious.

If using an express shipping it's a normal price.
I looked it up recently to ship a pair of pads from the Netherlands to the US: €50 for 3day express shipping using DHL and DHL is cheaper then Fedex or UPS is around here.

Hello,
As a stupid German, I can confirm that 😁.
Unfortunately, shipping from Germany to America has become quite expensive for us.
For a simple package you pay on average 30-40€ if not more.
For medium-sized parcels even more, up to large parcels.

I once asked about this and at that time Donald was supposedly to blame.
Because he wanted Americans to buy more of our products and not have anything imported, but that's all speculation.

Seriously, we have the most inefficient parcel management in Germany.
My wife recently ordered a load of paper for a cake the size of a sheet of paper and got a medium-sized parcel.
Or I bought two tubes in Germany where a small package would have sufficed, but I got a medium-sized box.

Of course, this also pushes up the shipping costs.
If I buy abroad, I get a small package where everything just fits in and is even securely packed, even though it is tight.
But that's right, it only has to serve the purpose, nothing more.

I would ask Ultrsone if customs clearance is included.
If it is, it's okay, if it isn't, it's an impertinence to ask for it.

Päckchen is without tracking.
Paket is with tracking.
Warenpost seems to be for more than 500 international shippings per year.
Unterschrift means upon signature.

Hope this helps 🙂

We get robbed so badly I no longer buy anything from outside EU except via ebay global shipping. That is also expensive but at least you know ahead of time what the real price is and don't have to file customs papers, wait 2 months, and pay 2X (item price + shipping).

Brief = letter
Hello,
No, unfortunately that is not possible, even if the idea is good.
If you send it as letter post, the note says that it may only be documents and not merchandise mail.

The only thing I can offer is to pack it smaller so that the pads fit inside and are somewhat padded, which would bring the package price down considerably.
And send it as a gift because of the duty, the duty would be a little cheaper.
With luck it will go through without customs.

I find it outrageous what the shipping service providers are now pulling.
And unfortunately nothing is being done politically.
And in some countries it's even worse.

Thanks for the shipping booklet info. Without reading German, I'm guessing the 38 euros is for a small package less than 5 kgs?

So the 70 euros seems like highway robbery to me in the US but not that far from the cost of doing business in Europe?

(reaches over and squeezes pads on Ed 10) I think they've got some life left. 😉

Thanks, everyone.

Hello,
Yes, you have understood correctly up to 5 kg and the dimensions must fit, otherwise they reject it.But the companies usually have standardised packages.
38€ is still a cheek, consider the customs clearance, then you have to calculate with everything around 100-110$, I guess.
