Hey, glad to see I'm not the only one! I've got one on order. It should be delivered in July, assuming that GM gets a little steadier with their supply of Ecotec drivetrains to Brammo (the US producer of Atoms).
I'm not really a car guy as such, but of all of the exotic cars in the world (or at least those that I know of), this was about the only one that really piqued my interest for long enough to even
consider buying one (let alone
actually buying one). So I guess I just lucked into my Atom purchase by seeing the Top Gear video (here for reference in case anyone hasn't seen it yet:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...55679329723134) before their production backlog got too bad.
The price is right (even with tons of options on a 300hp Supercharged version, it's still in the low $70k region) and since it's a completely open car, you feel everything like you would on a bike (but with much more safety). The beauty of the Atom (in my very baised opinion) is that it's an absolute blast to drive even at 30mph on the way to the grocery store.

Not true at all. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from but there were a number of people who got their SB100 smog exemptions this year in California (and in previous years as well). There is a bit of anxiety and all sorts of DMV procedures involved, but everyone who wanted one and stood in line for it, got one.
Here are some threads at the Atom Club about it:

There are 500 SB100 exemptions granted in California per year and they all get snapped up on the first day that they're available (i.e., January 2nd). It is not an absolute gaurentee in the sense that, a) they could always say 'no' to the Atom, but thankfully they haven't and have in fact given some strong indications that the Atom is 'fine' under SB100, or b) you're too late in joining the line and thus have to wait until the next year (boo)!
I guess the Atom owners really wanted it bad, so they got in line at 4am to beat the crowd.
State by state as individual Atom owners go through the registation and insurance process, new information is revealed. So far, no states have outwardly turned down anyone wishing to register an Atom. Sometimes it takes some convincing, and less than half of the states have been "tested" at this point, but Atoms are now "street legal" in many states and "illegal" in none.
Sorry, didn't mean for this to be such a long post, but it happened to be about a car that I've come to know quite a bit about and I wanted to set the record straight (in case Richard wants to order one!).
