[2021 Update] Venture Electronics (VE) Monk V2, Monk Plus & Monk Go: a $5 earbud that taking the world by storm!!!

Nov 17, 2015 at 5:48 PM Post #346 of 7,442
So, it's been 29 days since i ordered the monk, and i have yet to receive them
Now, on the traking it says that on 30/10 they where succesfully shipped by air. That's all. However, when going on the cainiao tracking page, it gives me an international traking number to track the shipping on the destination postal service. That raises a question: Now that the monk has been shipped by air, do i have to find out which postal service is handlind the shipping here in Europe to see where the parcel is? Or will the cainiao page keep updating the shipping status once the parcel reaches Europe?

Just a couple questions from a guy anxious to try his monks

This earbuds is really something... especially for it's price
I absolutely loved the yuin PK3 and i thought it was such a great bargain for around $30...

So far my impressions are as follows :
Vocals are more forward, airy and extends further on the PK3.
It's simply better presented on the yuin for the vocals but then again it's more expensive

Bass and high frequencies are more energetic on VE monk
        - Bass punch is stronger and highs are more obvious but a tad grainy
Due to the less airy presentation the VE monk doesn't feel as spacious

Switching from the monk to the PK3 makes the PK3 sound unnatural because of the difference in low end....

To be honest from what I hear, I can't tell that VE monk is $5 and PK3 is $30
in my ears they're both great earphones that have different presentation signature.
If no one told me the VE monk costed $5 I would have guessed the price to be around the $50 range

Thanks for the impressions :) How are you using them? Foam or foamless? imo they sound best naked or with a doughnut foam because a full foam cover makes the monk too warm while reducing the treble. I use the monk foamless with a rubber ring. Seals well, and sounds airy with female vocals ;)

Amazing tonal balance this way.

Was just listening to Cœur de pirate this past hour and she sounds marvellous on the monk.

I was using them with the donut cover for both earphones and had been listening to Aimer's After Dark album :p

I got my Monk today and hype is true guys. These are just amazing. It is hard to believe that they only cost $5.

The Monk is freaking awesome guys. I have been burning them for about 10 hours and they are getting better on each hour. So addicting sound. :)

If you have thinner foams, swap them and cut a hole bigger than the opening and you will be greatly suprised how much detail this beast can reveal. Just wow! Lesser foam --> more detail!

I think I may change my avatar with Monk. :D

Man....this thread. You guys have got me pumped up for my Monks and they're still three weeks away from arrival, at least :( At least I have these snazzy new KZ ZS1s to keep me company in the meantime.

So I think I've given up on the Monk...

They sound excellent but I just can't get them where I need them to sit for the best sound quality. Tried the Earhoox but it's a no go. I have a ton of iem's but would have liked them to work out. They sound very very good but the fit is what kills it for me. Oh well off to listen to my Zircons and HDS1's I guess it could be worse...

Received my Monks today (ordered October 29).  From what I heard, they sound very good for earbuds.  Unfortunately, much like CADCAM, I soon remembered why I gave up on earbuds a long time ago.  Something about the shape of my ears and earbuds just don't mix.  Oh well, no great loss at $8.

Check back in a couple of weeks, and a new stock should be available. Haven't yet received my pair, but the hype in this thread suggests that these are 8 dollars you might want to spend :D

BTW, it wasn't a single day sale. The monk's price is 5 dollars, but VE produces it in stocks (last one was around 750 pieces), so, when they sell all the pieces available, you have to wait for the next stock. Simple as that :D

Ordered a couple sets evening of 4th November (when about 100 were still available); got notification of shipping on 6th and arrived morning 17th. Was expecting a much longer wait. For those still waiting best keep a look out as may need to be signed for.
