2007 NBA Playoffs Thread

I have to admit, that is the first Warrior's game I've watched through the end this year. It is easy to see why there is a buzz to this team. One has to be happy for Golden State and that crowd. That's how it should be. Barnes is impressive. He is a blur slashing to the basket, even with a strained hamstring. I forgot how strong Baron Davis is.

Neither Utah or Houston can match up with The Warriors. Book Golden State to the Conference finals.

Dallas didn't play worth a lick. I always thought they were soft. My suspicions aren't going anywhere after that one. Avery Johnson shuffled his lineup like a desperate rat flicking his tail at a charging elephant. Dirk didn't even play the last four minutes. Has anyone ever seen a MVP candidate benched with four minutes to play in an against the wall game? That, my friends, is soft.

Edit - I just wanted to add that Marv Albert and Steve Kerr are one of the better announcing duos I've heard. Kerr with his understated humor and brilliant analysis is a perfect match for Albert's lovable ham handed play by play.

When Baron came up lame, the crowd was pretty quiet for a long time. The Stephen Jackson shooting clinic in the 3rd quarter was just amazing. It got the crowd back in the game and the Mavericks just looked shell shocked after.

Kudos to Baron and Matt Barnes for playing hurt and still contributing in a big way. Major disappointment in Dirk. He was not very aggressive at all. Only 4 points midway through the 3rd quarter and finished with 8 total. Totally disappeared in the 2nd half.

btw. It's been 31 years since the Warriors won a 7 game series.

For the Spurs/Suns series, I'm rooting for the Suns. If the Warriors are lucky enough to make it to the conference finals, they would have NO chance against the Spurs but maybe a teeny tiny chance against the Suns

I don't suppose any Tivo'd the game? I'd love to watch it again........and again.

Kudos to you Bruce!! The arena was rockin... I was listening on radio and the crowd chants/noise was deafening.

I think they have a very good chance for the Title.
I actually think the Suns/Spurs series is for the NBA title (IMHO).

Garrett,
Thanks for the links. Exactly what I was looking for.
You know, after the game, the parking lot was like, a.......... parking lot, so we went into the Warrior store after the game and there was a huge line and alot of empty racks. I guess it's fashionable to wear Warrior gear again.

suns in 6.

ive been a phoenix fan since 1992 and the number of times the spurs have beaten the suns in the playoffs has been staggering. i think in the past 10 years, we have only beaten them once or twice in a playoff series.

now with matrix and amare both healthy, nash playing like a man possessed, and barbosa looking like an all star, i think the suns are pretty much unbeatable when they play their style.

yes, the spurs are solid but this year, there is just no way i see the suns losing to them, the way they've been running.

Yeah, props to the warriors. I'm not a big fan of basketball in general, but I'm born and raised Bay Area and I've been to a fair shake of Warriors games.

On goes Utah in what was a very entertaining game. Boozer is playing like a man possessed! I think they'll be a much tougher matchup for the Wars. Sloan is a superb coach, as is Nelly. Utah is fearless and won't wilt like the Mavs did. I'm not sure Baron's leg is going to hold up either. It's going to be fun to watch. Utah in 6. (could be less if Baron goes down)

I didn't watch the last 7th b/w the Utahs and Rockets b/c I was watching Mayweather and Oscar fight. I still can't believe that Yao and Tracy can't get it done against the Jazz.

The Jazz are a much more complete team than the Rockets. Tmac and Yao are tremendous players but 2 scorers aren't going to get it done in a 7 game series. After Tmac and Yao where do you go? Battier? The Rockets need exactly what Tmac said they need after the game, more athletes. The Jazz roster is full of smart, tough and athletic players. Plus, they have Sloan, probably the best coach of this era not named Phil Jackson. (Even that's debatable because Phil had the luxury of having the 2 most unstoppable players of the past 2 decades.)

Can anyone tell me why Yao weas his first name on the back of his jersey?

How about the Detroit Pistons rolling over the Bulls yesterday? Watching that game, I was wondering if everyone should stop penciling in the Spurs.

Yao is actually his surname. In China (or any Chinese society), your surname is before your name. Yao Ming is a direct phonetic "translation" of his Chinese name. If we were to give him an English name, say James, then he'd be James Yao or James "Ming" Yao.

The Pistons DID look awfully good yesterday, but the Bulls looked bad too. I'm not so sure that we can make any judgments just yet, but it's certainly encouraging.

Last year, all I heard after Wallace signed with the Bulls was that it was all over for the Pistons, and that the Bulls were going to the finals. Well, not if he gets 9 points and 8 boards a game the rest of the way.

no, this is the nba. one guy can make a difference. let alone two. t-mac is now proven to be a loser. ten years now and he can't make it pass first round? i wanted the Rockets to win as i'm a Yao Ming fan and i thought this is going to be their year. what a shame

Battier can be very good. not a Duke fan but, 16 points and 4 rebounds is pretty decent for a third option.

even when the jazz were not making the playoff. they went 500(except for one year). not bad indeed. the next round is going to be fun. two great coaches. two very good, young and confident team. Stephen Jackson should be the x-factor. another 7 games series?

5 - 0 in the playoffs has to be encouraging. I like Detroit; picked them to win last year. Goes to show what I know.

This will be an interesting series. Who are the Jazz going to match up with Davis? Will the Warriors lose their edge after the upset?

If the Warriors maintain the edge, this one will be over in four or five. I don't see the Warriors clearing the lane after the pick n roll like the Rockets did.

Really? How did Kobe do? How did the 2 headed attack of the Nuggets fair? How about the Raptors? Bosh couldn't carry them to a victory because the Nets have more depth of talent. One guy can't win a series unless his name is Jordan or O'Neal. The Rockets have very little offensive talent beyond Tmac and Yao and it showed. In most cases you need 3 all-star level players to have an impact in the playoffs.

He's not a scorer, just a spot up shooter and can occasionally post up a smaller man. Battier is there as a defensive stopper, he doesn't pose a threat offensively.

Deron Williams will guard Davis. Deron is a very solid up and coming point guard. He's heady and tough. Probably the second best young PG behind Chris Paul. He and Paul are the next Nash and Kidd. Baron will have a much tougher time with Deron than he did with Terry and Harris. The Warriors will need more out of Ellis and Harrington to win this series.
