I got to listen to ericr's A12 today at a local Head-Fi meet. Upon playing the first song from my iPhone+HA-2, I was immediately impressed with its timbre, spacious soundstage, smooth sound signature with no apparent glaring spikes, and dynamic sound. Colour me impressed! I just wish I had more time to listen to them. XD
Glad you had a chance to hear the A12. They just came in Monday so they are still really new to me, so was nice to get feedback from multiple other Head-Fi enthusiasts confirming my impressions of the A12.
It was an almost scary amount of money to commit to a product not yet released and about which so pretty high claims were being made. But the more I listen to it the more impressed I am.
To Vitally & Stephen, I have to say you and the 1964 team delivered the product as claimed & promised. Hopefully you get to see the feedback these guys left above. It seems there really is something special to the ADEL technology.
It was fun to be able to share with you guys at the meet - that's exactly why I chose to get a the universal fit over the custom fit.
If there's anyone else is in the Seattle / Eastside are is interested in hearing the A12 with the ADEL technology shoot me a PM.
Bro, my wallet can't take anymore of this. I've just convinced it to part with some $$$ for the A12. It's certainly not going to be happy to hear of anything else on the horizon!

I assume you're new to the thread/ iems perhaps?
The answer to your q's is yes to both -
It's an iem with completely new technology which *appears* to not be just a gimmick, and yes 1964 ears have a very very good rep to date.
1964EARS had a Kickstarter project around December last year. Their products were 40% off retail price, and many A12 have been completed/shipped. That's why there has been much talk about the A12, but not the U series.

The hype train is in full force for this one. And to be honest, the love for the A12 is entirely justified, IMO. I haven't heard any of the other IEMs offered in the Kickstarter (U-series, A10), but the flagship 12-driver is quite the IEM. Besides, the current V-series earphones (V6-Stage, V8) are pretty darn good in their own right. Certainly worth getting excited about.
