120 GB iPod in less than a month - ready to be iModded

I know this should really be posted in the portable audio section, but this section gets a lot more circulation so I thought I'd share this wonderful news with everyone.

Samsung is releasing a 120 GB harddrive this month that will be able to be implemented into an ipod or Zune.

I currently have a 100 GB iMod using a drive toshiba released 3 months ago.

However, this 120 GB harddrive is the new thing and is no bigger than a 60 or 80 GB harddrive. You have two choices when purchasing the 120 GB harddrive.

Choice one is you can purchase the drive for 300 bucks and either have them install it if you're just using an ipod, or have Vinnie install it if you're using an iMod.

Choice two (and i like this one much better) is you can buy an 80 GB ipod and send it to them UNOPENED and they will switch the drives for a small fee and keep the harddrive the unopened ipod came with. After that, you can have your 120 GB harddrive iModded by vinnie.

I figured this would be very attractive to people that encode at high bit rates.

The harddrive comes with an extended life battery as well for free.

wow 120gb imod! i didnt even know vinnie replaced the hd's... i should really look into portable setups more now since i listen to music on-the-go a lot more often nowadays

Well, it depends how you encode your music. I encode at 256 and I don't think a 2000 GB ipod would fit all my music. That said, 80 GB is definitely enough for the essential day to day listening. But I'm looking forward to that day when my grand kids laugh about about the miniscule size of the 80 GB ipod.

i use to think having over 40gb of music was crazy...

80gb wont hold all my music by a longshot now, haha.

........but the good news is, if you were to purchase the harddrive it would cost 300 dollars. If you were to buy a new ipod (which you'd have to do) if you dont have a 5Generation Ipod, the cost will be cheaper and the whole purchase will even out to about the same 300 dollars.

I don't see how 40 more gb's of hard disc space is worth $300, then again maybe I just don't have enough money to burn.

I've been waiting for this since last year.

I have 90GB of music at the moment, flac for good stuff and 320k for stuff where it "doesn't matter" to me. My 80GB imod can't hold all my music so I have to decide what to leave behind. The 120 will keep me happy for a year or 2.

to me, i still don't think i want a 100GB player until the battery can last over 30 to 50 hours or to even longer. i rather get a few players instead.

I never really use the battery anyway, I have power packs at work, home and car which I always use. I only use battery for around the house.

That is some great news! Though if I am not mistaken Apple will be releasing new ipods in September with probably bigger harddrives as well.
Hopefully also with solid state drives. That would be a big pro.
But anyways, thanx for sharing, since I am looking for upgrading my ipod into a bigger one.
