It's available in CDs. Just not with jewel cases. I don't know if it has the full liner notes either.

I hope they do... I think they are just grouping up the CDs and put them together in a box set. Would be a lot of task if they are to re-package all 111 CDs. A funny thought as I'm writing this:

Did they just put this promotion up to get rid of the old CD stocks?

P.S.: I almost felt sinful for thinking so badly over GD's generous act.

Deutsche Grammophon is very cool.

top of the class artists, state of the art recording, they have been smart, creative, innovative & unique in the industry for so long and keep their quality always consistent .

i love DG.

Sonically they are fine. Mind you my setup is not very revealing (see my sig)

However there are a few minor problems...

1) No individual album artwork available

(emailed DG like 10 days ago but I have yet to receive a reply..)
2) ALL files are tagged with '111 Years of Deutsche Grammophon' as the album name.
3) Somes album (I think maybe 2 of them) have the 'track number' tag missing.
4) All files have the artists tagged correctly which IS a good thing.. However if you import them into iTunes the tracks in the same album will be scattered around when they have different artists.

I ended up editing the tags manually.

Thanks to the OP for mentioning this. I picked the DG set from Amazon and am busy ripping. So far I'm very impressed. Not being a classical expert I was wondering if anyone had a favorite CD in this set that should be listened to first?

Ordered this when it was on sale for $10 on iTunes, one hell of a buy. Only minor nitpicking is that some tracks seem to be overly compressed, could be the encoding process. I've barely dived into the majority of the collection, so really no favourites so far.

The CD's are no longer in print, I believe.  You should still be able to buy the FLAC version on their website.
I've seen the CD set listed on eBay for $499 and $699 recently...

Cheers - that is what I was afraid of.  I have also seen a few Amazon Market Place seller ask that kind of money which brings the cost to $10-$15 per CD which kind of defeats the purpose of the box set!  I will investigate their website for the FLAC version.

Good news: Deutsche Grammophon will be releasing another 56-CD box later this year, The Collector’s Edition 2

Just now revisiting this....the page in their online catalog is still there, but there's no *buy* button or options. 

 
Maybe I'll be more lucky with CE2.
