Could it be like that cause of efi? Efi boot requires a certain method of preparation as windows on a usb doesn't natively boot that way.... but then again, i'm not too sure as I never owned a mac.

In most cases...you just boot the computer up with the disk or USB in...and press and hold "C".

Installing VMWare. This better work.

I also hope running Windows that way fixes, if only slightly, the issue I'm having with Linux as well: after about 1 hour of use it freezes up and I have to hold the power button to shut it off. The mouse and user interface becomes laggy before it happens.

So if you don't have OS X, how are you running VMWare?

Hmmmmm interesting, never noticed that... apparently, pressing and holding "C" will boot from CD in a mac... but as you said, that's most cases as it boots to bios natively i think. But still there are many guides to boot native efi so iunno.

There are Linux and Windows versions of VWware as well, mate.

Yeah, I know, but you just said you were trying to install Windows? But if you can't install Windows, you shouldn't be able to install Linux from a USB drive either. I was under the impression your Mac is currently OS-less.

After 1-2 minutes of waiting after you press C you get a menu of choices to boot from Disk drive or USB :)
UEFI isn't that awesome, it's just a more advanced fun way of ..things. I had it on a Asrock Mobo.
