Just discovered Rurouni Kenshin and am watching the Final, but now I want to watch from the beginning. The anime version looks daunting as there are so many episodes. Does the DVD trilogy cover the whole story up until The Final?

The anime has a lot of filler. You should totally watch the Trust and Betrayal OVAs as it’s a prequel. Some debate on whether or not to watch first or after the main series. The movies are quite solid.

By trilogy, do you mean the live action movies? If so, yes it covers the whole story since "The Final" is the fourth entry in the series. "The Beginning" (fifth entry) is a prequel that fleshes out stuff covered in "The Final" more.

As for the anime, episodes 1-62 cover what the initial live-action trilogy does, then the OVAs cover "The Beginning" and "The Final". The rest of the anime is filler, you don't need to watch it unless you just want to see more of the characters.

Out of the blue, I've started watching Shirobako. It's fantastic and I feel dumb for not watching them back in the day.

And, Jahy sama is definitely the contender for AOTS in this weak season. Has Maou-sama Retry vibes with some fantastic comedy.

Thank you both. Yes the action movies, I'm watching the last one first - The Final. Trust and Betrayal OVA looks like exactly what I'm after.

Someone commented the actor looks too young in the action movies but he looks very young in the anime to, so it looks authentic.

This is why I asked you guys, saves me a lot of research, thanks.

Edit: I've watched some of The final but have stopped watching and have started on the first movie, as I'm enjoying the story.

She's such a brat I can't help but love her. I think they show just enough of her soft side that the brattiness doesn't get stale.

Just saw this... thing, on the French weather forecast’s website, with a warning to stay hydrated.
But isn't it bad for a titan to drink water?

I thought you guys would be able to appreciate the skills that weren't involved in the making of that picture.

Back in the day, I watched the movies first and then the series. I think you could go either way, but seeing the movies first gives you more depth to his back story and really helps nail home why Kenshin is the way he is.

Love Shirobako. I just saw the movie on Tuesday. Yet another great title from PA Works, and of course the real Musashino Animation was involved.

Yeah it gives such a homely vibe it's like actually watching the struggle of these studios who work so hard to give us fans an episode on a weekly basis. All characters are super relatable if one is involved with the media organisations. Every creative team has these exact characters 🤣🤣🤣

She reminds me of Fox girl from Kemono Jihen. Her goofiness is refreshing.

Heh, that's kind of funny because I believe there was a joke in the series that the sword style Kenshin uses seems to keep its users looking youthful for a very long time.
