What would cause a mechanical keyboard to double-press a key? My spacebar keeps double-spacing as evident by this post. I thought MX Cherry switches have a 3 million life span or whatever.

The superior tactile feeling of MX switches is failing me. I don't feel this double-spacing effect. lol

They're rated for 20-50 million presses depending on the model, that's a bummer. Although how much testing is reaaaally done on consumer gear, I doubt they do much testing after the assembly process since it's cheaper to just replace it under warranty.

IIRC there hasn't been a single reported failure of Topre switches, just saying. =P

All you gun nuts are just weird survivalists with thinly veiled paramilitary intentions.

Eh, you need ammo to be a survivalist though, which I don't have much of. And that miiiiiight be true :p

Yo! Long time no see! Nice gif though
biggrin.gif

What kind do you have? And raptor has a pistol? I thought they were outlawed in both HK and the uk where he lives.

I have a CZ75B Stainless (Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod) 9MM. I understand the need for composites in pistols but I'm not carrying and I like nice things so I prefer them to be heavy and mostly metal like a good ole 1911. I'm a Lefty and the ambidextrous safety is a good thing to have as well. Apparently these are popular in the competitive speed shooting world.

ReptAr has a Sig I think? I forgot already.

@Tom Yum Goong : When the zombie apocalypse happens, we'll see who's laughing!

Oooh, very nice! Been a while since I shot a CZ-75 but that's arguably one of the best pistols ever made.

Sigs are great too though. :)

This is so sadly true in the American media. Either every journalist has either never even held a gun and tries to write about them and how evil/scary they are, or they've shot them and love the hell out of them, and they're the "biased" ones.

Say guess, any of you know if there are any significant downsides to keeping the proximity sensor on a phone always on?

Kinda digging the ability to wave over my phone when it's asleep to wake it up, as it's faster than gripping it to press a button. That means that the proximity sensor has to always be on when the screen is off.

I used to have that feature enabled on the OnePlus 3, but then I found that it activates when I didn't want it to, so I disabled it. XD

Same here, I had a few accidental pocket calls and lots of battery drain when it would randomly come on in my pocket, so I turned that feature off lol.

I'm not a gun man and refused most times I was offered to handle/shot them. Somehow, I wouldn't mind going to a gun range to get trained but it's provably something I wouldn't do on my own.

I had a Mule Team 11 w/ M390 steel a while back that I ended up selling on ebay. I wrapped the handle using Paracord and liked it but ultimately decided I didn't need a knife and my expectations were too high. Similarly, I sold a Fenix PD35 for the same reasons but I ended up needing a light so I purchased the new version and some Orbtronic batteries plus a charger.

I thought a healthy dose of long distance truck drivers carried?

Yeah, I spent time on the range with an instructor twice. It was nice to get good real world advice besides just the gun training.

Dude... That could get really complicated in terms of laws between states for carrying because each state has its own concealed carry license you have to apply for, or hope your state has reciprocity with another state. And I'm pretty sure there's also lots of rules/laws about now carrying a gun while working unless you need it.

Getting some basic training at least about gun safety is paramount to enjoying the hobby of shooting and being safe while doing it.

  wrt guns.

I haven't shot or been on a range since 6th form (18 years old, last year of school in the UK). I can appreciate guns, but don't really see the need for one here. There's a shooting range about 200m away from my house at the local community center as well so it's not as if it's difficult to find places to shoot if you want.

Guns I did get to play with, SA80 (in cadet, light support weapon and standard variants), L110A2 light machine gun and the No.8 Enfield .22 target rifle (the school competition shooter). Never got to shoot any pistolas.

You guys can't own any semi-autos other than rimfire though right?

And Oooh the SA80, I heard it sucks arse but seems like a fun bullpup rifle to at least try and shoot some day!

Never really looked into gun ownership in the UK, so I couldn't tell you.

The A1 sa80 was pretty bad so the army complained. The replacement A2 fixed the issues and it's a pretty nice gun, reliable, easy to maintain and compact. I'd still take a mimi over it just because LMGs are fun as all hell to use.

I read previously that a joke name the initial version of the SA80 had was the "civil servant" as it didn't work and couldn't be fired :D

I like the look of the SA80 but the documentary I saw on it a few months past was a bit funny

  1. British tried designing a bullpup rifle combing ideas from other European and primarily German gun makers
  2. Initial version pretty much sucks....
  3. Little faith was held in British enginuity that it had to be sent to German company H&K for a new (and much better working) version

So it goes all the way around then. Where a rifle built with combo of American armalite ideas and German bullpup barely worked in its initial version and had to have it sent to the Germans to be fixed.

Lol

Really? I still heard the A2 had problems but that's good to know XD
Yeah, LMGs are a way cooler to use anyway! I dunno if I'd want to drag one around in the field though.

Lol

LOL that's about the worst thing you could say about a gun.

The real irony is that HK also has some issues now with their G36 and it seems like more and more countries are just going to AR based rifles instead of bullpups.

Being honest, back at that time British engineering was ummm...poor. Just look at the cars we built in that time period lol. Total garbage.

I've never shot one but considering that statement is officially a part of the rifles legacy....it does not sound good indeed haha.

Its almost as funny as how a knock off segway company in China eventually bought out and owned Segway

... Has British engineering really gotten better since then though?

Heh, good luck with that considering all the rednecks with guns here.

Yeah, I kinda wish I could own one just for the lolz even though I'd probably have to buy 2 just to get a working one.

Somehow I'm not surprised, but honestly the amount of ripping off/cloning going on in China just has me raging more than anything now =_=

We don't really do much manufacture now, but with stuff like ARM, Dyson, Rolls Royce and BAE our engineering design had improved significantly in terms of quality.

The country isn't big enough to be a leader in all categories of engineering anymore, but the areas we have specialised in we're pretty good at it...for now anyway.

I'm my experience(limited), I never talked to a driver who carried a firearm but was told of some being fired for doing so. There are many barriers that include state laws and there reciprocity, company policy, and shipper/receiver policy. My company as with most I've read about, do not allow employees to carry weapons, be it in a company truck or there own. As far as I can remember, most of the locations I've gone to pick up/deliver a load have signs that prohibit such weapons.

Any of you gun peeps watch this guy?

Yup, I appreciate guns too. But probably just airsoft guns.

Airsoft are fun, no worries about punching a hole on the wall or someone's body.........
Besides, way cheaper per shot......really ammo could be a serious money burner.

First time going to a club, and a gay bar in one morning.

Don't plan to go to one again any time in the next decade or two, so I went full YOLO. I could have either spent money on something I don't know about and hope it tastes good, get wasted on cheap stuff, or indulge on something with high reputability while enjoying it sip by sip.

Apparently this is the barista's favorite drink too, so there's that. My wallet already seriously regrets it, but it was so good for when it lasted; this stuff is out of this world.

Tell me that was for a bottle, right?

Nope, for a 6 oz glass or so.

It sounds bad, but given my track record of declining to go to a club/bar, it's actually reasonable. $161 / $15 for an average cocktail at a club = 11 visits. I've probably been asked more than than that to go, so if I were to spend $15 on anything in those visits (snacks+drink and/or beverage), that would equate to what I spent today in 1 glass.

I know a bottle is more worth it, but
1) I live in a dorm and storing alcohol is hella sketchy and I don't want to get in trouble
2) I usually drink to taste and drinking a whole bottle seems like a crazy idea to me
3) 21 year is extremely rare; even in the Asian grocery store I worked at, it was a rarity (17 or 12 was usually what we get), and if we did get 21, it sold within a few days of stocking

Of the whiskeys I've tasted, this one was by far the best: smooth, delicate, woody, not bitter or strong. I actually didn't know the price of it when I got it since I left my tab open until I finished the drink.
