It's more the odd scene or episode in normal shows where someone has a moe neko-moment that stick out. There really aren't many series that center on it and I agree there are even fewer that are actually good.

Doesn't even have to be centered around the glorious concept of nekomimis.
I just struggle super hard to think of more than a handful of shows with really good nekomimi characters in them.

Well thats just you though. I know you would call Oreimo and Asobi ni Iku yo terrible shows due to the questionable ecchi/imouto content alone.

Mayoi neko overrun was decent enough....not that great though.
