@Mechy
Then I'll just try it myself then LOL

@manvery
Some that I can help I think : Skip the GPU and rely on the built in GPU. i3 may be enough, but go with AMD since it's cheaper. 64GB SSD should be enough for programs+OS. I's about $80. 3TB HDD is about $170 and 1TB is about $80

Thanks for the help and suggestions you guys, I'm gonna go to bed soon, but will start researching possibilities tomorrow.

Honestly though, I still have no idea what I would physically do with all those components once I had them. Is putting them together something easy that a completely ignorant first timer could accomplish? Or does it require some amount of skill and I might mess it up and break stuff?

Yea, I'm also not going for the 4As now. Just did a quick search of "CIEM" in this thread and read imperialx's thoughts. :3 Guess it's time to reconsider.

@Computer People

Let's say hypothetically I wanted to get a new computer on a budget of ~$400. Desktop or laptop...it actually doesn't really matter, whatever I can afford. I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. I would need something good enough to handle pro audio editing software. Any advice or things I should know that I'm probably ignorant of? Or just grab whatever random thing I can find that looks like it has decent specs and fits the price range?

I'd think the most important thing would be a soundcard with proper ASIO drivers?

You may be right about that. I'll be using USB interfaces and DAC/amps, but other than that I don't really know how any of this works to be honest. I do know that with Pro Tools in Windows I've been using ASIO, though I have no idea in what way that relates to a soundcard.

Do you require low latency playback for realtime recording / overdubbing?  That's the main advantage of ASIO.
If you've got a USB DAC you want to use then the computer's soundcard is irrelevant.  Check the info on your USB DAC for ASIO drivers.

Wow how did you manage to do that lol.
It's a mesh filter rather than a felt type of filter so they don't normally come with spares, no? Since they're not meant to be replaced (or to fall out), unlike the RE0's.
Pretty sure the filters on the POPO are pretty much acoustically transparent, or at least supposed to be. Wouldn't be too worried about the sound.

When I removed the tip on the left side, I could already see that the mesh was glued on wrong (the ring of adhesive plastic holding the edge of the filter onto the bore had shifted) and was sticking out of the side of the bore.  When I fitted in another tip the tip caught on the bit of mesh sticking out and made the mesh come off.

The right side had a treble peak that became stronger after the mesh was removed.  It was already stronger with the mesh than the left side without the mesh :?: So it seems I can conclude that the drivers themselves on this pair of Popo were not well matched.

FR graph: black is left side, red is right side.

So guys I made another daring purchase: a $44 pair of open air headphones with 50mm drivers (which is like the biggest size used on headphones)

They sound pretty damn good too
