The Lambda series of headphones have been around for decades though, and they don't cost thousands. The SR-202 was first made in 1999, for example.

That, plus the Lambda series is actually pretty modular for a headphone. You can buy the earpads, head arc, and head pad all separately. You don't see that kind of feature in modern multi-thousand dollar headphones, do you? XD

Another good thing about hd800 :>

But welp, thats pretty tough call for dem playnar makers poi

Find a machine shop to make you a metal one and never have to fix again.

Don't use superglue. Use a glue thats enough to put that together. Because superglues can kinda melt the plastic components.

Superglue doesn't hold well, I need some kind of epoxy or maybe drill some holes and reinforce it with metal strips. The repair broke after two uses. XD

A mate gave me some carbon fibre vinyl wrap....I am a simple man;

And to stax, we are giving these products thousands of dolars. Please make it durable than 10$ ones.

Wanna know how much I paid for my used STAX?

SR-30 electret headphones + SRD-4 electret converter: under $100
SR-207 electrostatic headphones: $180
SRM-212 electrostatic headphone amplifier: $150

The electret headphones sounded the same whether driven from the electret converter and speaker amp (Lepai LP-2020A+: under $30) or the electrostatic amp.

That 'stat amp has the same circuit and specs as the SRM-252S, which is currently $360 in the US.

Here are the prices for in-production STAX:

The flagship stuff does cost thousands, and even more when you get aftermarket amps for the best sound, but the entry-level models aren't nearly that much, especially used.

I'm careful with my gear, so I don't think any STAX would break on me despite some of it being made of plastic. The pricier ones have much better build quality too.

So I take it there's going to be a new WipEout release?

I played WipEout HD (with the Fury expansion pack) on PS3 for sooo many hours. Got pretty good at it. Wasn't very good at WipEout 2048 on PS Vita, though.

I know at least two SR-009 owners who think the SR-207 is better than the SR-407 and SR-507.

I know at least three 009 owners that think the opposite is the case.

But.. They both use the same driver and have the same impedance and such...

Did the 5k have any damping mods done to it? I wonder if my D2k I just picked up may have some internal damping and such to lower the treble a bit? I'm guessing the increased bass on the 2k is due to to a better seal created by leather pads versus velour.

Trying giving it some more burn in, I'm playing with the E-mu teaks right now and the treble is only now starting to even out after like a few nights of just running it with music.
